So, in reading the Division I playoff document on the D1AA site, it seems that the first round is bid out for some home games.

If PSU is selected, is it a smart thing for the University to put a large bid in for a home game? It may not even be an option, but if it were, said question stands.

Yes or no? Is it a viable option to bid a large sum of cash to host a DIA playoff game? Many remember and talk of the DII playoff days, but can we repeat that?
 
I think it would be a smart move to put up a large bid for a home game. Getting a home playoff game could be the spark needed to begin the return to crowds like the DII days. Unfortunately the first week of the 1AA playoffs is the same weekend as the UO/OSU game which would not allow the Vikings to be alone in the spotlight.

Regardless, PSU would profit (although not financially) from making a large bid and securing a home game if given the chance.

The Civil War was moved to Friday the 24th, so a home playoff game would be all PSU on that Saturday.

Here are the minimums:

Site Determination. With regard to first-round, quarterfinal and semifinal sites, in addition to the criteria listed in Bylaw 31.1.3, the NCAA Division I-AA Football Committee shall consider the following additional criteria when selecting playoff sites:a. Prospective host institutions must submit the following minimum financial guarantees, which shall be 75 percent of the estimated net receipts as submitted on the proposed budget:First round—$30,000Quarterfinal—$40,000Semifinal—$50,000

In that case I think it would be a no brainer to make a substantial bid for a home first round game (if PSU makes the playoffs). From your other post, $30,000 is the minimum bid (payment to 1AA) for the first round. PSU should make a bid in the $40-45,000 range and bite the bullet if they end up losing some money on the deal.

The home field advantage would be huge in the first round and make the chances of progressing to the second round greater. With a second round game (again PSU should make a substantial bid for this to be a home game - if possible) PSU will be on the way to creating the same interest in the program as there was during the DII playoff years. This all could be just what the Dr. ordered.
 
Yes, bases on the criteria listed, PSU should bid. PSU has been so good at home the last few years, and they are so much better than their record indicates, that a bid could really jump start a major run in the playoffs.
 
Shoot, PSU should overbid to get a home game. If you want to get things going in the community you have to take a chance.

Here's to someone having the guts and foresight needed to take a big financial chance. Playing on the road (like at Delaware in 2000) will do nothing toward creating a buzz and larger fan base in the PDX area.
