Playoffs?

Fun to speculate and nobowls.com is pretty good at forecasting possible playoff matchups. First one came out today (subject to change, of course) but they have us currently in, going to William and Mary in the first round.

But, a whole lot of BarneyBall to play still.

Thanks for that.

Very fun to speculate. :-)

Baby steps. Let's get a win against MSU.

MM, winning against MSU will be anything but a baby step! :lol:

This week, nobowls has us still in, going to Sam Houston State in Texas.

The winner would then play at McNeese State. I have to say I like that. While we haven't played the Southland since Glanville's first year, I seem to recall we have an outstanding record against the Southland, as Walsh's teams played that conference pretty regularly.

Can't say I would have ever predicted seeing a projection where SUU is the auto-bid and PSU is an at-large going into the season. The Big Sky is quite the wild ride this year.

Nobowls still has us in this week, playing at South Dakota State in the first round.

Almost close enough for us to bus it. :lol:

Wow great win. Cal Poly filled the stands and we showed the determination to win that we are going to need if we do in fact make it. I've been worried about our offensive line and this game confirmed my fears. We got manhandled all game. We kept trying to run between the tackles the whole first half and couldn't do a thing. It looked to me like we were forced to finally pass after Jones went down in the third quarter. Thank goodness for a QB who can throw and run when needed.

We looked like a new team when we began to throw which in turn then started to open up some running holes. If anyone has the coaches ear please convince him our passing will open up some running holes. All it takes is to consider the ND game and the first half of this game to see that our OL needs help. Rely on the pass to open up the run, don't rely on the run to open up the pass.

In the interest of a bit of "cushion" I will admit to being one of Cal Poly" biggest fans as they play So Utah next week. With that said... I don't want to jinx this but watching our seond half Saturday night...wow. We honestly do control our own destiny. Go Viks!!!!!!

Great post. I would like to see the pass first run second order in the game plan. We can run and will have success at it, but our line can't push people around this year as maybe they did with DJ Adams in the backfield. We have a new center and he may not have the experience yet to keep his crew on the right page. Yet.

What an unbelievably strange playoff projection. They have 4 Big Sky teams in, yet none in the seeded 8. Anyone who wins the Big Sky with 3 losses or less will be seeded... bank on it.

What's particularly bizarre is that they have Montana listed as essentially the highest of the Big Sky teams. Their projection is basically Montana as the top team in the Big Sky (despite not projecting them for the auto-bid) playing at home before going to #5. Eastern would be essentially their #2 from the Sky, playing at home before getting dealt to #2. Southern Utah and Portland State are at the bottom, playing road games before getting dealt to #1 or #2. In order for this scenario to play out, Montana would have to win out. Otherwise, with 4 losses to FCS team, there's no chance whatsoever for them to have the best position among Big Sky schools.

If they did that, going 8-3 with wins over NDSU, Eastern, Portland State, and Montana State, they'd get a seed. If you guys (PSU) go through the rest of the season with only one more loss, you'll be seeded. The win over WSU is the bets FCS win of the year, and another FBS win needs to be respected even if it came against woeful North Texas. Eastern may even get seeded at 8-3, but definitely at 9-2.

Keep in mind that the home team in the first round is subject to the biggest guaranteed gate. Montana and EWU would pretty much outbid any team they would play. SUU and PSU would generally get outbid. The most interesting game is that they think UNI would outbid Montana State, something that would not sit well with Bobcat fans.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but the way the playoffs work is, if you are chosen to be one of the top 8 seeds, you have a bye in the first round and are guaranteed to host a second round game. If you are not one of the top 8 seeds, you have to play in the first round and the home team is decided by a "guaranteed gate" which means whichever team can guarantee a bigger turnout, that team will host the game.

In order to get a top 8 seed, we probably need to win at least 2 of our final 3 games to finish 9-2. 8-3 may do it, but it will be shaky. Our two FBS wins are great, but the fact that we played one DII team could hold us back from seeding consideration.

What if the administration was able to.work something out with a local shoe or apparel company y to purchase blocks of tickets? How many rears in the seats would it take I wonder?

Depends on who we draw. If we draw a well-established team with a rabid fan base, probably a lot of tickets. And it is a guaranteed gate which means we would be on the hook for it. The FCS level is aware of the lack of support we've been getting in the past years from the city so a big gate estimate from us may be met with raised eyebrows.

Yes, I see your point. Thanks for the insight.

Nobowls has us as the #6 seed, with a bye in the first round and playing the winner of EWU/Southern Utah in the second at Providence Park

STATS has us as the #3 seed, playing the winner of the Eastern Illinois/Dayton game at Providence Park.

nobowls has us playing NAU in the first round with the winner playing at Southern Utah the second round.

http://nobowls.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Rumor has it as well (as in, I can't find the link yet) that STATS has us playing Southern Utah in the first round with the winner playing at Eastern Washington.

Are you ready for this? Nobowls.com has us as the 8th seed, with a bye to the seocnd round hosting the winner of Southern Utah and (drumroll, please) MONTANA!

http://nobowls.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now that would be interesting. The Ducks and Beavers seasons would be done and, if Montana were to win, those Grizzlies fans travel well. That game on Halloween was fun, but can you imagine if it was the playoffs.

:notworthy:

No sleeping on this Sunday morning!!!! Got the tv on ESPN U to watch the NCAA FCS Football Championship Selection Show. I feel Portland State deserves a first round bye: 9-2 record, 5 victories over top 25 teams, 2 wins over FBS schools (including a 8-3 Washington State), largest victory over a FBS in history, the 2 Viking losses are by a combined 5 pts. Its a great resume!!! Go Viks!!!!!
