Portland cheap hits?

Portland State knocked two Wazzu QB's out of the game. Do they play dirty, I get the impression that they take head shots and do just about anything questionable. Wouldn't surprise me with Glanville running the program.

Word from eGriz (both Griz and Kitty fans) seems to be that the QB injuries resulted from just dumb luck following poor blocking. One of the hits may have been slightly late, but the near-consensus seems to be that it certainly wasn't cheap. As a caveat, though, one is of the opinion that cheapshots should be expected from a Glanville-coached team.

No opinion yet on the Davis incident. No response yet from BSFans, either.

I saw that play, and that's a being a little dramatic. He had the block, he just dove for where the ball was, not where the ball was going to be as it was being kicked. He was so deep in your backfield that I think anyone would have gone for the kick block. As it turns out, he missed the ball, hit the punter, and you guys put the nail in the coffin on that score on the next play due to the penalty.

You're right, a bit dramatic...sounded better but honestly it just looked bad because I think our punter Brett Dickinson caught his kleet in Smith's torso and it just got jarred like crazy. The opening kickoff is not exaggerated at all...he was playing with total disregard for how he tackled Tucker.

Yeah, that kickoff play by Smith was not what I would consider good clean football. He's not been known for stuff like that this season (or last season), so I kinda chalk that up as I guy making a bad decision on a play. If it happens again, I'll start to wonder about his intent.

Regarding the punter getting jarred. He's a punter. The average punter should have more Oscars on their mantle than Jack Nicholson and Katharine Hepburn combined. :-)

Watch out for this fella, he basically tackled our returner on the opening kickoff by grabbing his head with one hand and closelining him to the ground, then he proceeded to almost tear the leg off our punter on an attempted block.

#33 Dallas Smith out of Redding, CA

GCM and AggieFinn...Coach G doesn't teach cheap shots, but he does expects players to hit...this isn't Greco Roman wrestling, you know.

Re: Davis...Finn, I'll admit the first Davis game tackle was aggressive, although that punter hit was not by design, he just ran into the punter.
Re: Wash.'s QB's...I was at the game sitting in the Portland section, with Wazzou facing away when both the sacks took place, so I had a very clear view of the hits.
Both were standard 'pad' into upper body, sliding down their torso as they went down. Neither was exceptionally hard (Lopina's was a double hit with the initial knocking his shoulders forward), although PSU was called for late hit on Rogers. The paper reported it as helmet to helmet, but I don't believe that's true. I was pretty close, saw it, and didn't hear any helmet contact, just a normal pad-to-pad. Even Wazzou's Coach Wulff acknowledged it wasn't that flagrant or unusual.
When Lopina went down, I didn't think too much about it, and honestly thought he was staying down to buy time. After a while, he got up and walked off without any sign of discomfort.
When Rogers went down, I again thought he was either buying time or trying to "underscore" the late hit. When he didn't get up, and eventually, I saw them stabilize the neck while rolling him over, I was genuinely puzzled.
To tell you the truth, when I saw Rogers taken out by ambulance, I didn't think much about it, and only later, when I heard that Lopina had lower back fracture and Rogers, a frac. cervical vertebra, was I dumbfounded at the severity of injuries. I'm very sorry about Rogers injury ending his season, primarily being a 5th year Sr., he's finished playing ball now, but I wouldn't blame Dickson for making a late or bad hit...it was what it was...in a night game, in the rain...just a hit the way the game's supposed to be played.

Just a note...when Rogers was being placed in the backboard, and put in the ambulance, Glanville walked out and signaled the team to surround Gary in a show of support...a pretty honorable gesture you don't always see nowadays.

(BTW, AggieFinn...after experiencing Missoula's tailgate scene last week...are you and 6thMan ready to join me in a crusade to "officially" overturn CA's ban? Commit the lot to the NE of the stadium to "preferred" parking for the tailgaters?)

For this reason. I will be BBQ'ing and getting sauced at my house to watch the Classic on my 47" LCD screen with friends.

No drinking allowed for normal tailgaters...only in the designated areas just outside Aggie Stadium, which means you buy the beer there, and it's overpriced. It's lame...and shortsighted, but apparently it's a slippery slope in their eyes. We still sneak a few in plastic cups out in the other areas, you just can't act like an arse the whole time.

That sucks....unofficially UC is ok with the MJ plant, especially in Berkeley, but no liquor. For Shame!

Wow, that really sucks, I guess I'll be watching the game on TV. Tailgating, with beer, is a huge part of the game experience that apparently is slowly being taken away or banned. For whatever reason the CSU has banned all alcohol in sporting events, which has had to have affected attendance.

...yup...it's purdy lame...SJSU is keeping the fan base by serving beer in the stadium...I can't imagine what the crowd would look like without the beer.

Ok...a little late for this season...however, I want to work this from the "inside". I'll talk to you over the next couple of months and share the info with all the Aggies and Hornets posters and interested parties. I've said it before, but that policy is another example of what happens when we let Western Whackos in authority.

BTW, not to pick a fight with the Hornets, but that "new Girls Soccer Team/Men's Football" locker room is just awesome...

...if the football team is a group of undernourished dwarfs.

WTF!!! :x

Most H.S.'s locker rooms are bigger.

But the good news is, I see the "new Girls Chess Team, Multi-cultural Heritage Celebration Team, Athletic Wellness Center/Planned Parenthood Abortion Assemblyline" facility has broken ground.

...maybe they'll have enough room in the double digit million facility to spare a closet for opposing team personal gear.
