Man, the start of the Burton era brings back memories from the start of the Glanville era. I remember being absolutely pumped for that game at McNeese State and feeling so convinced that PSU was on the cusp of something big. It really just all went downhill from there. Hopefully, a better fate awaits us this go around, but I find myself feeling very reserved as this season kicks off.

Lot of things have changed attitudinally. Players are pumped, psyched and "flying in formation." I think we're going to see much more potential realized from the players PSU has. I am very encouraged with Kavanaugh quarterbacking and with what should be an improved defense. Ole Jerry was kind of poking along, and I believe Mouse and he came to the realization that they need to be the gurus and let a younger man take the head coaching reins.

I hope the Viks are wearing white/white under the night desert sky.

I hear you about that McNeese game. We were all talking playoffs and rankings, and I think it took about three weeks to realize that we were getting completely outplayed on the field.

This year seems different, but fall camp is funny that way, as everyone starts out tied for first place.

I do think that there has been a ton more energy at the practices. I think that the lack of hitting during the JG camps hurt us. That may work in the NFL, but I don't think it does well at the FCS level.

We shall see on Saturday night.

Yeah, we're more realistic now. The Glanville/NFL hype and Mouse was too much to resist. And of course the media helped. But we're back to reality now, with the Big O silent, ditto TV. It may not be as exciting - was it CK that said we're going to concentrate on moving the ball downfield rather than on the big plays? Still, I'm hoping there'll be some flash. McCaffrey's bound to turn in some long runs. JT will catch a couple. Having some over 6' WRs will translate into yards. And our defense has to be better than last year. If we're lucky, we'll be injury-free. I figure we'll be at least average - but that'll be better than the last three years.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that as the away team, we have to have white jerseys unless the home team allows us courtesy of the home greens.

I think the Vikings will have greater mental toughness along with a greater sense-of-urgency. They looked really good plugging the holes against the run on defense and I am a big fan of our double=threat QB, Aussie punter and our field goal kicker. Our punt returner has learned some from last season as there will also likely be no longer be any stripping away of the ball away when he is running it back in for the score.

Per NCAA rules, the road team must wear white unless both teams agree in writing to change for that particular game.

I can't ever recall seeing ASU not wearing maroon at home.

The NCAA gave teams permission to both wear "colored" uniforms last year, but they must not be similar in color or shade or color(dark/light). UCLA-USC now both wear their home uni's when the two play.

With that said, I don't see why this game would feature two home uniforms.

It just so happens the wife and I will be driving to Phoenix from our home in Texas on Saturday for some family business. I doubt we will be in town in time to be at the game, but at least I can catch the game on local radio and hopefully see it on local tv plus the highlights on the late night news.

Burton says Vikings haven't decided on a quarterback for ASU opener
PSU players pick six captains, including QBs Kavanaugh, Hubel

I noticed the game is listed as being shown on comcast channel 415. I called comcast who said they can add a sports package for $5.99 a month that would give that channel. There is a $2 fee to add channels and $2 more if you eventually drop them. So basically, you can add the package for this game and drop the package by the end of the month and it will cost $10 total.

I know it looks to be a blowout, but I'm thinking about it doing it. The U of O game seems like too long of a wait to see the Viks.

Thanks Jas.

I just called up and added the package and the guy was nice enough to waive the fee to add the channel.
:D

JG not looking so bad now. A-state is just a mediocre PAC-10 team. Played better last year against PAC-10 runner up O-state. Reminds me of the old Mora clips re-played on the radio, everything just sucked! I didn't like CK or CM regardless, 11 for 12? WG was a little better and picked up some blocks. What happen to Bowen, he still on the team? Overall, that was an embarrassing performance. Upcoming: #11 Oregon.

I don't agree at all. This team is better than any of the three JG teams. The effort was there against ASU as were the concepts. Bowen is still on the team, third behind CM and Griffin, both of whom have looked sharper in practice. The concepts and Team structure are in place now, setting the foundation for winning against BSC opponents.

Let's hope your right. To be fair we can revisit our opinions after the Oregon game and again after BSC play. Is DH 3rd as well?

Watched replay of your game against Arizona State. Your team wasn't that far off from making a lot of plays. They had a RB that outran some guys in position to make a tackles and their team speed on defense was shutting down plays that normally go for big yards.

Good effort and there is a lot of talent on your team. Just a matter how fast they can gel.

Yes, DH is third. Has not looked as sharp throwing as TH, and of course less mobility than either of our first two guys. He'll still be a team leader though, and we may need three to get through this season.
