Portland State at North Dakota Game Thread

Well the secret is out. the emperor has no clothes and the viks have no pass defense. big surprise huh? actually never have!
remember the montana state game last year? we would have won that game except for the several occasions
when their receiver was standing down by our goal line with no db in sight. it must be extremely
difficult to recruit top notch dbs. i agree with the other posters, psu will end up being very good in the other
categories, but with all the competition that we face that make their living throwing the ball, it is
going to be a very long season.
oh, and by the way, the chances of the viks making the playoffs were slim and none; and with us pissing this game away, Slim just left town. Remember to qualify, a team needs 7 d1 wins. after this coming week
we will be 1-2 with the win over Carroll not counting because they are not d1. that means that the viks
would have to finish the remaining 8 @ 7-1. after the other bsc teams get ahold of our films, that's not
going to happen.

Good assessment MACMAN, except I'm not so sure that "it must be extremely difficult to recruit top notch dbs" is the reason, unless you're referring to mental acuity. After reading the comments from Burton and Sluss, it didn't appear skill sets were the culprit, but the breakdown in assignments and the discipline to carry out those assignments. Nevertheless, you're right that if this part of the Viks game doesn't improve we're in for a long season.

Also, I can't find anywhere the requirement for FCS programs to have to win 7 games against DivI opponents to qualify for postseason play. To my knowledge Tennessee Tech qualified last year with only 5 wins against DivI teams. I do know that FBS teams need that requirement to be bowl eligible though.

PSU's goal needs to be making the playoffs every year. Especially now with the expanded playoffs. I agree that two games into the season we have already put ourselves into a tough position. The Athletic Director needs quit scheduling Carroll Colleges. Those games do nothing to position us for the playoffs. While there is no specific win threshold, history tells us that 7 wins is usually the threshold. A win against a Carroll College does nothing for the playoffs.

Losing games like North Dakota is on the coaching staff. That was a winnable game and yet the staff doesn't have the db's drilled on the correct assignments. Yes, I do remember Montana State from last year. Why hasn't this been corrected yet?

Right up to Carroll, there was a lot of shuffling of DBs. Missed assignments? They're learning them.
Question is, will they learn them soon enough.

I haven't watched the game yet. So it will be interesting to see if I'm right, but I'm not 100% convinced that having Sisler playing any position other than LB is a good idea.

Does this make it hurt a little less?
