Portland State at Washington Sept. 15

Good point on that TD over Sluss by the tight end. The coverage was perfect, he just was going up against a huge tight end that will most likely be playing on Sundays in the future.

We should pull McDonaugh and give some reps to our backups.

Kieren has NO touch on his passes.

Looking at the time stamp, it seems that you wanted McDonagh pulled pretty early from the game. He is a freshman and our starter, so he needs valuable game reps. However, he probably should have been pulled after that TD pass he threw to Lewis, to not risk injury and give the others a chance.

As far as touch goes, I felt like he had some nice touch on a lot of his passes, some that were caught and others that weren't. Watching the game live in the stands at CLink, it looked as if a couple of balls got away from him; however, watching the broadcast replay on ROOT, it seemed like a couple of those passes were intentional throw aways. McDonagh made a bone headed high school play by throwing that pick 6, but at other times he shows poise and maturity (for a freshman). He will become more consistent as the season goes on. Overall, I thought he did a pretty nice job for his third college game ever against a PAC 12 opponent. He has shown enough flashes in these first three games that have gotten me excited to see how he develops for the remainder of the season and for the next three years (WE HAVE HIM FOR THREE MORE YEARS!). The future is bright, it's a good time to be a Vike. 8-)

Other notes from the game:

DEFENSE - Overall, we were just overmatched with Seferian-Jenkins (that dude is Jimmy Graham-esque) and the other athletes you expect to see at a PAC-12 school. The secondary needs to get shored up, but one thing the defense can hang its hat on is the fact that they looked like they never gave up (most of them). They were all still flying around, regardless of the score.

SPECIAL TEAMS - What a disaster. This is getting embarrassing. If we don't get this figured out soon, we won't have a kicker because Fernandez will get injured off a block or there will just be more confidence in the offense to convert 4th downs or PATs.

Maybe Burton pulled him? Kietrell went down, so perhaps it was a good move to yank Monahan out of there before that happened to him.
