Let's see for Cal.

* RBs (but you guys probably know that :-)
* OLs: We lost 3 Seniors to the NFL. The young guys are pretty athletic and
decent size IMHO but inexperienced.
* WR: awesome speed. fastest I've ever seen for Cal.
* TE: so-so, the one decent guy w/ experience (Stevens) is banged up.
* QB: Nate was very good against MN, but ineffective against TN. Strong arm,
Not super mobile.
* DL: Mebane is a >300lb monster. The rest though are really banged up.
esp. Mbakogu who was our top pass rusher last year.
* LB: Bishop is solid in the middle. Very fast overall. Williams is a physical
monster.
* CB: Was one of our strengths going in, but took a big hit when we lost Mixon.
SydQuan Thompson is athletic, but he's a FR and got burned twice by TN for TDs.
* Safeties: Again athletic, but unproven. They've actually been "ok" so far IMHO.
* ST: Seems better than last year (and even the year past), but we've already
given up a >90 yard return on a kickoff. :-(
* Kicking: Schneider doesn't have the best strength in the world, but decent
accuracy if the distance is < 40 yds. Our punting seems to be pretty good.

Offensively, we are typically a very balanced attack (despite having
aspects of the spread at certain times) We seem to more often go
run from the I and go into a power-run mode. Esp. at the end of last
year, we have gone into a pure run mode and capable of winning games
that way. This year, we seem to go into stretches where we run
the spread vs pro-set and the team seems to be able to switch
gears quite easily.

Our defense tends to be "bend, but not break" and on occasion will play
very conservatively. But on the other hand we've been on the top of
the Pac X in scoring defense lately so we're not too shabby there either.

Prediction:
If Cal doesn't overlook PSU: Cal 45 - PSU 13
If Cal does: Cal 27 - PSU 21

Wow thanks for the run down of Cal. I watched you guys pretty much get worked over by Tennessee but did not see turn around on Minnesota other than the highlights that ESPN showed.

Minnesota is not an easy team and you guys stuck it to them. If we do better than Minnesota that will be awesome and will help us build more points for our run for the 1AA playoffs.

Nish221 your predictions are very respectible however I do not think Cal will over look us knowing that we nocked off UNM not saying that they are a bad team I actually think they will do okay this yr in the MWC but I'm saying that we are good team for 1AA and can contend with some 1A divisions schools. One advantage for us is that our defense will be somewhat fimiliar with your offensive scheme having played Coach Toledo at UNM. If we can stop the run it will force you to pass which can be deadly for either team! Either Cal will make some big plays catching our secondary off guard or either our secondary plays one hell of a game and keeps the offense yardage low which will produce a close low scoring game.

My prediction

Cal 44
PSU 24

Thats a pretty optomistic prediction I fear it actually being alot worst!

PSU has a better D line than Minnesota and I think that will keep this a closer game than that one.

Minnesota's D line is/was pretty weak and that allowed Lynch to run wild.

PS. As if I need to say this, but Marshawn Lynch is amazing.

I finally got around to signing up...nice site.

I noticed that you guys have YET to give up a touchdown....especially impressive given the game vs NMex.

Just from what I've read your QB looks good and your RBs are 'by comittee' so far.

I'm honestly hoping for a pretty smooth game for our Bears this week. This would be an easy game to overlook and get bitten (see Northwestern/New Hapshire), and you guys are now 13-14th (?) in I-AA poll I think.

However, after we got buXX's handled to us in Knoxville I have to think the guys will keep focus.

Hope those of you who come enjoy....I suspect there will be a decent PSU turnout. I'll hope for a Cal W this week, but good luck in the Big Sky...looks like you can make some noise.

I agree w/ SonOfPappysBoys. Your site is actually quite nice. Kudos to your admins & moderators.

We *were* somewhat like Toledo (pro-set) last year, but with the addition of
Coach Dunbar this year, on passing downs (and other times), we now go
into a Spread type attack (similar to Oregon). But we do run out of it much
more often than your "average" Spread attack that I've seen.

Tedford has a reputation for developing QB's but in reality he is a "run first" coach. He has always had a strong rushing attack that can take pressure off a QB.

The key for PSU, in my opinion, is to not give up big plays in the Cal passing game. Cal will run the ball and Lynch is awesome, but the PSU defensive front is also outstanding and will make Cal earn their yards on the ground. If PSU can make Cal go 70 yards in 15 plays (thus no big passes) the chances are Cal kicks FG's rather than score TD's.

Welcome to Berkeley! Hope you guys and gals have a great visit! Here's to a hard fought and injury free game!

Good hunting all!
