Portland State University has on its campus a symbol of one of Portland's neighborhoods: The Simon Benson House. This renewed building has been a boon to the campus in terms of campus charm, sense of place and Portland history.

My senior year capstone was "Brooklyn Neighborhood History." Since I lived in Brooklyn, it was a no brainer for me. My project was "Old Friends Coffee Shop, Bookstore and Antiques" which was among other things was also the sight of the old Brooklyn Garage.

I also found out that at first all the streets in our neighborhood had German names until WWI, where they were renamed. My street was renamed for British general Douglas Haig.
