Portland State @ Idaho State Thread

This Reggie Jones character hasn't played much @ Idaho. You have to wonder if he's good enough to play @ PSU.

I think he was a starter as a cornerback. Could be wrong, but that is what my memory of him is. Don't know why he hasn't played this year: academics, transfer problems, injuries are all possiblities. Maybe they are saving him for next year when Mackins and Kirkland are gone.

Idaho State has a QB carousel going on right now. Doesn't sound like any of 'em are as good as, say, the freshman Nevada threw out there last night when they almost beat Boise on the blue.

Considering NAU's performance, I think this is a winnable game... if the defense is improved. This could hinge on Allen being available, and Tyler's foot health. He certainly looked affected against the jacks.

Big game this weekend.

The ISU games have shown the lack of ablity of PSU teams to win games that they should on the road under Walsh over the years. The playoffs have slipped away in Pocatello a couple times, so this will show a lot about where this program is headed...

Well said.

They better win this game if they want to keep riding that newfound popularity wave. I think the last couple of weeks have clearly shown that the extreme perspective many journalists had at the beginning of the season (the program is either going to THE sensation of the year or die instantly after one loss) was wrong. More people attend the games and seem to realize that a game lost can still be a good game and that it takes time to build a good program. That said one must keep in mind that it is becoming increasingly difficult to get attention with Oregon beating the crap out of the rest of the nation and OSU recovering with a victory over Cal.

I think we need to do our best and stay realistic. With a couple more good games, good recruiting, and some more quality sponsors, we might be at 15,000 attendance by the end of next season.

(Then we win the Big Sky first time in 2009 after a spectacular 42-0 win against Montana on their own field, gaining national attention. We are invited to play more and more BCS teams and continue as one of the top FCS teams for a couple of years and finally ascend to the WAC or even the PAC-10 after Washington State realizes that they simply can't play football, and then win our first game against Oregon! AT AUTZEN STADIUM!! BWAHAHAHA, TAKE THAT OREGON!!!)

When, where: 2 p.m. PT Saturday, Holt Arena, Pocatello, Idaho

Radio: KTRO (910 AM)

• Coach Jerry Glanville celebrated his 66th birthday Sunday by climbing Black Butte (about 6,400 feet) with wife Brenda.

“People probably live in Portland all their life and never get to see the breathtaking beauty of this state,” he says.

At the Metolius River, Glanville saw three deer crossing at the widest point. “I thought, these three deer could coach at Portland State,” he says. “At Portland State, you would cross the river at the widest point.”

A little later, Glanville met eye-to-eye with a coyote. Back in town at Sisters, he met a hat maker who is going to make him a new cowboy hat. And for his birthday, his wife gave him a crew neck t-shirt, black, of course, and with long sleeves. “Where we come from, we don’t have much in the way of long sleeves,” he says.

• The weekend helped Glanville realize again how much football means to him –and how much he wants it to mean to his players. He told them Monday: “If you don’t love practice, don’t come tomorrow.”

• The Vikings were in recruiting mode much of last week, while the team had a bye. Glanville thanks four local car dealers –Kuni BMW, Gresham Ford, Weston Pontiac and Miles Chevrolet – for loaning vehicles that the PSU coaches used to recruit in Washington, Oregon and California.

“Without those four, we can’t do the job,” Glanville says. “Those four car dealers get it. They will change what we become.”

Steve says...
The Vikings have lost on their last three trips at Pocatello, Idaho, but Saturday’s matchup figures to be their easiest road game so far this season.

The bye week should help heal some nagging injuries, and the offense is rolling along nicely.

The pick: Portland State 38, Idaho State 20

Sorry, Jerry, but that's BS. We know exactly how breathtakingly beautiful our state is. That's why we are here.

I suspect that it's not that they don't own their own cars, but it's a way of cutting recruiting costs/expenses for the Athletic Department. Why rent cars for your coaches when you can trade the cost for advertising?

True we know, but after I got married I had little chance to get out and see it, and my wife at the time, now ex-wife, who was a native Oregonian never left the city in her entire life

How seriously would you take a college recruiter who showed up at a JC or High School campus in an old, run down, cluttered, low end economical and generally battered privately owned vehicle over one who shows up in a new, clean upscale luxury car?
