The heat will keep PSU from winning.

I think the heat and humidity of Lake Charles, Louisiana on September 1st for the game being played between Portland State and McNeese State really does play into the Cowboy's favor. Back in 1991, Oregon played poorly against Utah in the heat of Salt Lake City the first game of the year and lost to them.

Jerry Glanville, having coached at nearby Houston, will be initmately familiar with field conditions, but it will be hard to mimic and actually practice in game-like conditions here in the Northwest. I'm sure the coaching staff will look to keep everyone hydrated, use strategic substitution of players, and do everything they can to keep the player spirits and physicality optimized and in the game. /users/31/07/37/smiles/smileywe.gif /users/31/07/37/smiles/smily19.gif /users/31/07/37/smiles/618108.gif

One saving grace is that the game will be under the lights. The Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife has a table saying that 6:23 pm is the time for the sunset. The game begins at 7:00 pm CT (5:00 pm PT) with probably the last vestiges of the day's sunlilght.

Heat and humidity may still be a problem, but they also may not be. I lived in the South and while it is true that September 1st is usually as warm or hot as any day in August, there could also be a day of good fortune. The evening temperature may be as high as the 80 degree range, or it could be cooler. If a thunderstorm occurs a few days before the game, the humidity could be attenuated. /users/31/07/37/smiles/537744.gif

It is going to be interesting to see how the Viking coaching staff prepare the team for this game. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. /users/31/07/37/smiles/595146.gif

My crystal ball says that the Viks will not be held under 21 points in any game this year. If McNeese only scores 20 points, we win!

I am thinking the score will be in the mid 20's. A 24 to 27 type game, tight til the end. Just not sure which way to go yet. Once fall camp gets started for both teams I might just have a clearer picture.

I wouldn't even want to try to pick a final score for this game.

We have seriously changed both the offense and the defense in the offseason. There is no way to predict the way that the PSU squad will look like for the McNeese game without seeing practices in August.

Heat for Oregon at Utah in '91? I was there. That was a night game... for the most part. It's a dry heat, too. The bigger issue was that Danny O'Neil was a freshman and had no line in front of him. Altitude would be a bigger issue.

It's hard to prepare for Louisiana heat unless you've been there. JG will do what he can, but players have to listen.

lol beautiful.

Ya gotta remember the run and shoot of Davis....high scoring....paired with JG's defense...can't go wrong with hoping for a return to this type of score, I'd be happy with a score of 45-14

That's right, great minds think alike tfarrell23.

I found Neil Lomax on the web..and they had his records at PSU...of course his Coach was Davis... the Only thing...lol..is the competition was slightly lower than it is now...Lomax had 7 touchdowns in one Quarter...Probably vs. Cal Poly Pomona..my home town team...lol

This kind of firepower is the run and shoot...PSU one of the most famous and followed Division II Schools
I loved those days. I was in the stands for the Delaware State and Cal Poly games. Mouse had Lomax bombing away in the 4th quarter, In the Cal Poly game, the student section had achant going, "we want a hundred, we want a hundred" They tried and came up short.

I'm sorry, but there is no way either team will hold each other to that many points.

/users/31/07/37/smiles/595146.gif I agree

Just to jump off topic for a minute, does anyone know how many of the Vikings stayed on campus and are working out together this summer?

There was an interesting article in our local paper today talking about how 90% of the team stayed and has been working out.

I think the big sky is a better leauge but you have a learning curve but I think Psu gets four or five big plays and wins 31-35 28 3 to 7 pts is on the mark
