Portland, OR – Portland State University men's lacrosse club has hired three new coaches to lead the program for the 2012-2013 Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) season, beginning July 1, 2012. All three come to PSU after serving in similar positions for the past three years at Wilsonville High School (Wilsonville, OR).

Head Coach Dave Sanford brings over 30 years of lacrosse experience as a player and coach. "PSU provides an incredible opportunity for me as a coach to build the next great MCLA program in the Northwest – right in the heart of Portland," says Sanford.

"The school offers a tremendous opportunity for players to compete at the MCLA Division-1 level, enjoy a rich education in the heart of one of America's most incredible cities, and build lifelong relationships with an incredible group of young men."

Assistant Head Coach Kyle Virding has also served as JV Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach at both Marist Catholic School (Eugene, OR) and Southridge High School (Beaverton, OR). He has worked professionally in the National Lacrosse League and continues to coach year round for Lacrosse Northwest (Portland/Bend, OR). Virding is looking forward to coaching at the collegiate level because, "as a teacher, I love having the opportunity to coach in a higher education setting while being able to work with some exceptionally talented lacrosse players and coaches."

Defensive Coordinator Garry Falor brings with him a wealth of knowledge gained as an assistant coach at the NCAA level with Denison University (Granville, OH). Additionally, Falor played at both Herkimer Community College (Herkimer, NY) and Salisbury University (Salisbury, MD), winning a national championship. Falor says he is, "joining the Vikings lacrosse program as a passionate coach who enjoys the game and is inspired by the energy of the staff and the talent level of the student athletes."

The new coaching staff is looking forward to the opportunity to experience coaching in the MCLA with the exemplary student athletes already on the roster and is already on the hunt for incoming talent to build a sustainable and successful program.
