Portland State @ Montana

It's not a good feeling when you see a penalty flag on the field, and you automatically think it's against the Vikings. And you're right 90% of the time!

Yards:
PSU - 310
UM - 284
First Downs:
PSU - 18
UM - 13

Yet we're down 15.

:ohno:

At least we get the ball to start the second half, but unfortunately, half time adjustments isn't exactly our forte.

I can't take anymore. What a pathetic effort by the coaching staff to get this team ready today. This is embarrassing.

Was there any word on Penn's shoulder?

The tv broadcast just mentioned that they had ice on it, could be anything.

Given two of the worst interceptions I've seen in a while, it may be time for a change at the starting QB position.

I too am embarrassed. Nigel's nonchalant attitude towards penalties is wearing very thin. The offensive play calling in the red zone, particularly at the goal line, has got to be addressed, doesn't it? This team is not devoid of talent; nor is it that inexperienced to be offered up as an excuse. In my opinion, this one falls on the coaching staff, particularly as it pertains to game management. Forgive me my rant. No wonder we can't put anyone in the seats.

Good luck Hersch!

I was looking at the Montana board, and someone wrote exactly what I was thinking throughout the game. This post sums up the last few years for me as a Viking fan.

In the end same old story for PSU, decent talent but undisciplined play kills them. Penalties, turnovers, more penalties, and blown assignments. I thought it was bad against Cal Poly but today might have been worse.

We need to replace the coaches. The talent is there but the discipline is not there on either side of the ball. The penalties are a direct reflection of the coaching staff. This is true at any level of any sport. The penalties and undisciplined play have cost us all three losses.

Coaches are suppose to put players in the best possible position to win ball games but this coaching staff has the talent and doesn't find ways to utilize it and win ball games.

No longer can we blame the kids on the team for their costly mistakes. It's time to be honest with ourselves. The mistakes are a direct reflection on the ability of the coaching staff to get buy in from the kids and from the kids to respect their team and coaches enough to simply focus and not get game ending or ridiculous penalties.

This season can be turned around right now. If this ridiculous behavior isn't stopped and the penalties, interceptions and fumbles don't get minimized we will have underachieved with one of the most talented teams Portland State will see for years to come.
Agreed...the inmates are running the asylum. You don't have to be Knute Rockne to see it. You have some talented athletes on your squad, but absolutely NO DISCIPLINE... :dead: good luck to ya the rest of the year.

Mental errors, so the coach says. I said "No discipline" too, but he countered that they were mental errors. I think we may have some found some basis for corroboartion here.

One thing I wish Montana players would not do, however, is they will, oftimes, get in the way of our players when they are trying to get up after a play is finished and blown dead. They will hover over them and get their body in their way when our player is trying to get up and back into the huddle. Sportsmanlike conduct can be greatly improved here.
