About eight weeks later, PSU disclosed Oregon Health & Science University had donated $7.5 million towards the long-awaited project, finalizing preliminary funding. As a result, the construction process could begin for the planned $44 million structure that promises to transform the Portland State athletic department and provide both Vikings basketball programs with one of the best arenas in the Big Sky Conference.
Besides OHSU, funding sources for the Viking Pavilion project include long-term state bonds ($24 million as approved by the state legislature in 2013) and private donations from supporters.
“We have the minimum required to move forward with construction, and we’re doing that,” Rountree said. “That building is going to transform our world and, hopefully, the world of this campus as well.”
