Ugh. I'm sure this will be a good game, but it's hard for me to think of Northern Colorado as a legitimate threat.

Solid win, sounds like Coston and Waters weren't 100%, but we still won pretty easily and got great contributions from our bench.

I thought Andre Murray and Tyrell Mara were key to this win. Mara's two 3 pointers were huge and he needs to be given some kudos.

One other comment....

I wish we would stick with our school colors - GREEEN and WHITE. I'm sorry, but the black uniforms ruin it.

I agree. Tyrell was terrific. Dominguez and Nelson were no-shows today. Lethargy? Admittedly, UNC did some awfully good defending. We did too; Weitzel and Banks were practically no-shows themselves. As a whole they only shot 27% for the game; our defense must have had something to do with that. I sure hope we do better shooting against EWU; if not, we're in a heap of trouble with the Montanas.

Thats 2 good strong outings in a row for Mara after a quiet stretch.Good to see.The Vikings bigs might not be imposing but they are good at playing within the system to help the team.

  • Mara does all he can for this team. He is not the most skilled player on the court, but he makes an effort every second. On defense he's bigger than his frame, yelling in the opponent's face. Perhaps the most important part of his game can be seen when the Viks are down. He gathers the team together to talk, grabbing the shirts of wandering sheep, a leader.
  • Dominguez has a new role from last year - take the double or triple team, pop it out to a shooter. He performs this role well. He hasn't been as consistent since the injury and Bone handles his minutes appropriately.
  • Nelson is always a threat - a no-show? He had a block and two steals. Sure, he was cold from the field, but this is a team sport.
  • F*ck the Montanas.

I am still concerned about our major weakness. Lack of size in the middle. People are able to dribble-penetrate on us and we have no Scott Morrison there anymore to block shots. Weber, NAU and UNC all have had success penetrating for lay-ups. We beat UNC, but it nearly cost us vs. NAU. And Weber made us pay.

Is there a redshirt freshman centers we can activate or is it to late in the season to activate another player?

We had bad luck on centers this year. The freshman we signed from California chose in the end not to go to school for personal reasons (I never heard what he did end up doing; his academics were excellent). We then signed Visockis (6'10'') and at the last minute it was discovered that his academics were short and he'd have to sit out the year. I'm praying that he'll play next year, but there's no guarantee. So, no big center. I'm hoping we go again to the nationals, which will give us a leg up recruiting a big guy for next year.

Visockis has been sitting on the bench during home games, right? I don't think he'd be doing that if he were planning to leave.

Yep. I think we can count on him for next year. I think the first report was that he was gone from the team when the transfer issue came up. Losing Visockis for this year was bad. However, we should have him next year with a year in the PSU system under his belt.

I think Guede is going to be a real boost for us once he is healthy. Sounds like he is a pretty skilled player and he could be a real asset defending bigger guards and forwards. Is there any word on when he'll be back?
