Portland State @ St. Mary's

St. Marys has a 6'11" center and two 6'9" forwards. We'll have our hands full (St. Marys beat Oregon yesterday). They'll dominate the boards - have only average three point shooters. And they're at home - expect the fouls to go St. Marys way. It'll be a good test of how we stand up to tall teams. If Phil stays on fire and Dominic catches too, we just might win this one.

Looks like Wayne Hunter is out for the year. He didn't play in the Oregon game.

This is a great match-up between couple of quality mid-majors. I have no idea how we're going to stop Samhan at 6'11''. I'm surprised how much his game has improved throughout his career. I remember seeing him play a couple years ago and he was a useful player, but clumsy and often out of control. He might end up being an all-American this year.

Anyways, if we keep shooting the lights out like we have been we'll have a shot, but we've got to rebound and sustain the gains we've made on the defensive end the past few games.

Briefly: The Vikings ranked sixth among Division I teams in three-point field goal shooting percentage (44.0), were tied for 12th in three-pointers made (88) and were 67th in three-pointers attempted (200) after making a season-high 17 of 33 threes in Sunday's 93-81 victory over Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. ... Nelson, the 6-foot-8 junior from McNary High School in Keizer, was named the Big Sky Conference's co-player of the week Monday after scoring 39 points total in victories over Linfield and Pepperdine. Nelson, who shared the weekly honor with Eastern Washington's Brandon Moore, made 8 of 12 three-pointers against the Waves on Saturday and led all scorers with 28 points, surpassing his previous career high of 24 points in last season's 77-71 loss to Hampton at the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage.

If only Phil could be more consistent... Tough to see him follow the Pepperdine game with a performance life this one.

True.

However, Phil could have gone for 30 against st mary's, but there's no way we'll beat anyone when they shoot 83% from the field in the 2nd half.

I find it a little concerning that in the past two seasons we had not given up a hundred points to a team, yet this season we've gone reverse-chalupa twice already.

It's easy to see why St. Marys is first in their conference, ahead of Gonzaga. Samhan will go high in the NBA if he keeps this up. He's the best we'll face this year. Jamie didn't have a chance against him. Yes, our defense could have been better - just have to work on it. As Marty points out, 80's not bad against a team like that. On to Washington State.
