Portland State @ UC-Davis - GTS

Love playing you guys (see user name). This game always scares me though. We both got beat up pretty bad by the Pac-10 so we're both wondering what our team are made of. Can they bounce back?

Edge goes to UC Davis for two reasons, (a) we're at home, (b) since we just announced we're joining the BSC in 2012 we'll ride that excitement and take it out on the first BSC team we play (sorry).

Good luck guys!

I dunno. You've got a pretty young team, starting with the freshman QB. I'm impressed with the lack of fumbles, penalties, interceptions. Good discipline. Neither one of us did much on offense (we did a little better) - both of us will be looking for our first touchdown. Being at home favors you; I'm not sure if the Big Sky membership means much. You've been playing at that level all along. Both are young teams. May the best one (in the moment) win!

I watched Both Games..cause i'm a Cal fan..and I'll be honest...UC Davis' QB looked real shakey..expected too..because he is a true freshman. I think this is a game PSU can win to be honest. I thought PSU looked better vs ASU than UCD did vs Cal. Though defensively..PSU has some work to do heh.

On the face of it, Davis does look very weak, at 81 total offensive yards. The Cal defense must have been impressive. On the other hand, Cal didn't get many sacks. As weak as that Davis freshman QB was, his line protected him. We'll no doubt try a few blitzes, but will we do any better than Cal? I'm mostly concerned about the Davis running game. It didn't show up for Cal, but ASU had no trouble running against us. In last year's game against Davis, their Trombetta killed us on the run. He's a senior this year, and wasn't played against Cal (why?), but he's around. A lot of unknowns in this game. Our defense was notoriously weak last year, and the ASU game didn't indicate a lot of improvement. Still, that was the Pac-10. Our offense is more experienced, good receivers and decent QBs. Our running game is improved. But it's a Davis home game. All in all, a toss up.

A long time? We were still considered a D2 team when we beat Stanford in 2005 - yeah, only 5 years ago. So we're new to 1AA (or whatever they call it these days) and I know for a fact the players are all pumped having finally found a home in the BSC. It might mean nothing to you guys but trust me it's a big deal for us.

Again, good luck Saturday!!!

17-9 PSU takes it down. Their running game worked last year becuase they had a solid QB and an outstanding receiving corps (which still wasn't enough against Sac State :D ). cal-davis is starting a redshirt freshman QB (because Denham quit) and the receiving corps is nothing compared to what they had last year. Their front 7 seemed to be fairly athletic but aside from one of their LB's, they don't have much to write home about. I think this game is winnable for PSU but I also think it will be a low scoring game so turnovers and penalties will be key. Best of luck Viking fans, I'll be pulling for you guys. 8-)
