Portland State vs Weber State Thread

Love Kavanaugh's ability to run. 31-21 with 3 minutes to go. Could be too little, too late, but I'm glad Conner is getting a chance to play.

I stopped watching the game just prior to halftime. It is hard to remain enthusiastic when the team so clearly beats itself with turnovers and penalties. The second half shows that PSU and WSU are not so different in talent, and these games can be won if the team concentrates and cuts out the mental errors. I feel especially bad for the defense, which provided arguably its best performance of the season considering the competition, the setting, etc.

I damn near turned it off at the half. I ended up flipping on Big Sky TV to watch the whole mess with my own eyes. The start of the 2nd half was more of the same with the pick and the one play TD drive for Weber. Not sure what made me keep watching, but wow, we really looked good from that point on.

So another one of those second half moral victories I suppose. BS.

We should NOT be making the mistakes that we're making at this point in the season. Weber State isn't more talented than we are, they just play smarter football. Here are some items that stood out.

- Some of these INTs that are thrown are just terrible decisions to throw the ball into that spot (other than that ball off of Mario). Weber should have had about six picks. as their DBs can't seem to catch a ball in the numbers. I realize that Hubel is a soph, but come on. Hey Mouse. Swallow your pride and think outside the box. It can throw teams off and put points on the board.

- Jones had a bad game. Not a game of missed tackles and coverages, but a bad mental game. Fielding a punt inside the 20 while running backwards, letting a punt go that's downed inside the 10, pushing on a critical 3rd down in the 4th quarter. Man, this from a senior.

- Two field goals attempted, two field goals blocked. That's six points in a ten point loss. Let me state that another way. That's six points in a game where we lose by ten and score two in the fourth quarter where we probably would have gone for two and been down three in the fourth quarter against the best team in the BSC.

- What a waste of a nice performance by the defense. Really, there was only two big plays (first play of the third quarter and that 70 yard running play) with a major breakdown. They played well enough to win the game.

It's getting frustrating. I hope we can turn this frustration into a domination of Montana. We have the talent, it's just a question of if we beat ourselves or not.
