Do you have a clue about what any of the coaches you listed you would like to see kept ACTUALLY do??? Apparently not based on a few of your suggestions...
Actually, I do.
Regardless, they are my opinions. I'm not perfect. So, if I forgot someone, or put someone on a list that shouldn't be, then; sorry. As has been stated previously, this is a forum. If nothing more, a collections of opinions. So, please share what you think. I'd really like to know. In all seriousness, I think Eck is a no brainer, but once again, that is what I think.
Why?
He knows the program
He helped recruit a number of the current players
The players know him
He knows how the program has been built, he was part of it, and I would bet, has a pretty good idea where the program needs to go, and how to get it there.
He is an offensive guy (even though our defense needs some seriuos overhall) who will get the most from our lines and offense.
Finally, he has already been at Weber and knows the culture, attitude, and expectations of the school and area.
I certainly don't want anyone thinking that I am "ripping on" your opinion. What I am trying to point out is that our opinions are much more founded when they are based on facts. I am merely suggesting that you may not know what contributions some of the people you listed actually make to the staff as a whole.
For instance, Kamaal. He was supposed to be a position coach when he first got here. He wasn't living up to expectations on that front, so he got moved to a general assistant for the defense. He still wasn't living up to expectations, so he got moved to Football Operations...
Dyson certainly knows football. But he is coaching out of his love for the game. As a result, he gets paid minimally and, therefore, spends minimal time in the office during the day as well.
Beck also is another person that is rarely seen around the office during the day or in the evenings...
I don't question the abilities of ANY of these coaches as far as their love of the game is concerned. But it is certainly not fair--or conducive to winning--when the bulk of the work is done by only a few.
I agree that Don would be a decent replacement. He is familiar with the program and a few of the players. My only hesitation is wondering if he is too close to Mac to make some necessary changes--specifically cutting some of the players who do not take their roles, their scholarship, or the team's success seriously. There are several players on the roster who are trouble--they are at the root of issues off the field, don't live up to par academically, and they aren't even impact players on the field PLUS they are lazy and have terrible attitudes. The fat needs to be trimmed. Is Eck going to worry about what Mac thinks????
APR is an issue for WSU football as it is. But I think that the University, the President, and Bovee would certainly be understanding if a few of these players were cut loose as a new staff comes on.
