Possible JC QB?

I talked with Coach Peterson the other day, he let me know that they are still looking at QBs at the JC level. He said he has a JC guy ready to come who took his team to a JC Championship and threw for 3,000+ in a similar offense to his at SUU.

Welcome to the board GA7. Someone posted we had 5 schollies still available. 2 more players were added last week so there should be 3 still available. In one of the Facebook videos, Peterson mentioned he is going to a no huddle offense which sounds like he will be implementing what was used at SUU. Any type of offense will be better then the Pistol that was used last season.

Any offense? How about Pielstick?

(J/K. No, as much as I liked Pielstick's offense, I didn't care much for Pielstick himself. Couldn't call his way out of a wet paper bag. Too much stretch on third and long....)

False SD! I sure wouldn't want to ever see Sac St convert to a triple-option offense team!

Did he mention why he is looking outside of the current QBs on the roster?

Welcome, btw.

I was wondering the same thing. Its always good to upgrade, but it seems Sac already has good competition at QB going in to camp.

I don't have a problem with this. The more the merrier, I always say, so long as they're not adversely affecting recruiting at another position. You never know when you'll be down to your fourth string QB. The Texans went through that this year, and I still remember one of the AZ schools who started their 4th QB against the #1 team in the country because one quit and the other two were under arrest for grand theft auto.

Not that something that drastic would happen in Sac. But weirder things have happened. Just from a sense of security, I LOVE having a ton of QBs on the roster.

My guess is he is going to bring in as many talented QB’s as he can, and then let the best player win the job. Given what returning experience (or lack thereof) we have at QB, I have no problem with this strategy.
  • • Jeff Fleming – Graduated
    • Tommy Edwards – JR, Transferred out
    • Garrett Safron, SO
    • Colin Burnet, SO (FR if he redshirted last season)
    • Jake Geringer, RFR (Redshirted with an injury last season)
    • Mason Magleby, JR (FBS Transfer)
    • JC recruit?

I wonder is he's looking at Nick Montana who just transferred from Udub to Mt. SAC here in SoCal? His brother did end up in the Big Sky after leaving ND.

If that happened, would Sperbeck and Phlugrad oblige the world with the obvious QB matchup?

Somehow, I doubt it, but it would be interesting to at least think about.

Hey GA7,

Let Peterson and Sperbeck know about this guy:

UCLA QB looking to transfer. He's a senior and has a year of eligibility left.

Are we still looking for a JC transfer? I havent seen anybody signed since that has been talked about. We have three scholarships still available correct? I honestly think that would be a great get. Carrying 6 qb's of all different ages would be great. we went thru what 4 qb's last year? And I am sure that Nolan Sorenson will come in and redshirt next year. That would drop us back to five on the roster.

Here may be a dumb question but I have always wondered it. Division 1 football has no partial scholarships it is just all or nothing. Are we the same way in the FCS? When these kids sign their letters of intent are they getting everything paid for? I do not know those details about college football, I played baseball at Sac St.

Do we have any football players that play baseball as well???????? Or have we in the past years?

Welcome to the boards sacstfan.

My guess is if one is brought in, they enroll for fall semester and will be in fall camp. And I agree an incoming JC QB would probably be redshirted for this season.

On a different track, what are your thoughts on the new baseball coach? It looks like the baseball program is turning around for the better and it’s finally becoming competitive. We don’t have a baseball poster on this site so feel free get a few baseball threads going under the “Other Hornet Sports” area if you’re up to it.

FBS football teams can offer up to 85 athletic scholarships and all must be full scholarships. FCS football teams can offer the equivalent of up to 63 full athletic scholarships some can be partial but no more than 85 players can receive an athletic scholarship. All athletic scholarships at all levels are one year scholarships and may or may not be renewed or revised the next year.
