Post Game Reflections: UC Davis

How can you give the offense less than an A when they put up 56 points?
How can you give the defense less than a B when they only give up 7 points in a half?
How can you give the special teams less than a B when they return 4 kickoffs for 153 yards, 2 punts for 32 yards?
Heres how;
the offense had 36 rush attempts, severely padded by few passes in the 4th qtr garbage time. Only 3.9 yds per carry. Your QB should not have almost 1/3 of your rushing yards. Jabari Wilson is more a power back than our "scat" backs and had 85 yds, again in garbage time. Until we have better balance between the rushing and passing games we are not an A level of offense. We are an A+ passing team and a D running team. overall B+
I think our defense is becoming outstanding. The first half was not that of a winning defense but in the second half they were dominate, and that is with key injuries to experienced players. As our young guys gain more experience the defense will continue to get tougher. We still have trouble stopping the running game but good at pressuring the QB and defending the pass. B+
Our punter had the day off :lol: and thats a good thing. The special teams held them to 11 yds per kickoff return. It was a different day on kickoffs because we were kicking away from their outstanding return guy. B+
Proud to be an Eagle!

I agree with this. I will say that I can see something special in Custer. That one handed catch on a bad pass and run after the catch show that he is on the verge. He gets better every game, and I'm really looking forward to see him play over the next few years!

What's crazy is that Antoine wasn't even the feature back at De La Salle. What does their #1 guy look like? :shock:

Regarding grading out the D.

A football game is 4 quarters long, not 2. We have not sniffed a B grade yet this year over the course of an entire game.

Scoring D: 103 37.4 ppg
Total D: 103 462 ypg
3rd D Conversion pct D: 100 .447

We are showing signs of getting better over stretches but when you get to the quarterfinals and beyond you'll be facing teams like JSU, WIU, and UTC who can keep us in the 30's and would still be scoring almost at will against us if we played right now.

It's not that I lack hope in our ability to improve, and one bright spot is turnovers gained where we are tied for 31st with 9. I just think we need to get these numbers down significantly if we're going to make a deep run.

I thought the screen passes finally slowed their rush a little. We hit about 3 screens in a row for 10 yards a piece and they had to slow just a bit, which gave the QB the extra second to calm down and get the ball out.
