Post-Season Awards

A case could be made for all three of the top teams, top guys to be MVP. I'm sure the voting was close between McKinney, Bruenig, and Harvey.

I believe that I have said this before, but the top teams will always get the lions share of the individual awards. That is just how it is, and how it should be. You earn individual awards by being a team player first. That is something that escapes many players, and some coaches.

When you are on the second team, or mentioned in the process, it means that you are a good player, but your team didn't do well. It could also mean that you were an average player on a good team.

You go one step below where Weber finished and you get nothing, and rightfully so. :coffee:

Hell, I'd even say Jois should have been in the conversation. Eastern goes as he goes, not Harvey. He does so much more than just score.

It does feel like the talent level is up in the conference this year. I think this is the best group of coaches the conference has had in a while. (last year might have been better with Tinkle in the fold) Too bad we are still staring at a 16 seed or play in game.

Eastern chose to put Harvey out there for the vote, and not Jois. You can only nominate one of your players for the award. That choice was made by their coach. :coffee:

The Sac State dude got it because he is a senior and the other two contenders are both juniors.

That is exactly what I thought.

Its obvious neither one of you saw McKinney put up 27 in the second half against your Wildcats......he is the better team player and the most valuable to his team in the conference......

I don't think anyone is questioning McKinney's qualification for the award, just that, in a close vote, being a senior may help a bit. Like I said, you could make an argument for any of the three. It may have come down to one vote. Just saying. :twocents:

We did see that. But we also saw Harvey do something very similar to that on Saturday. McKinney is a great player, but his POY certainly was not a slam dunk. But it's okay you feel that way because you are biased like you should be.

I am biased toward Mikh (I know him personally) but what I saw is EWU won without Harvey, they lost when Jois was out....I don't think we win without McKinney....therefore Most Valuable Player....

Adding more evidence that this conference is a joke, DeCuire doesn't win coach of the year. Katz and Hayford, whose teams did about exactly what they were picked to do, win it. Hell, I would of given it to Robinson before those two.

I agree with you on Jois. Harvey went off on us in the second half, but it was the steady play of Jois that got them the win against us. He kept them in the game in the first half. Without Jois, we would have been up by 25 at the half and I don't think Eastern would have been able to climb back into it even with Harvey's heroics.

McKinney has been a huge difference maker for Sac for the last two years. It sounds like he is a great kid and deserves the accolade. :thumb: :thumb:
