Potential Head Coaches

I do trust that AD Collins and Pres McMahan are fully aware of the position of all athletics at EWU, and from what I’ve seen are trying to put a better foundation in place. Whether that means coaching changes or increased revenue into athletics remains unseen, but neither of them are dummies nor seem complacent with where the university is at.

IMO, coaching change desires or not, what EWU needs most is butts in seats … if Roos is packed and we go 3-8, there is the money needed to make a change. If Roos is packed and we go 8-3 and make the playoffs, then we as fans also get what we want.

So let’s show up and show out.

For what it's worth I do know players who played under Best over the years and have an ear dealing with this current situation. Haven't heard of massive dislike of Best and yes has he he said said some naughty things to players and assistant coaches I suppose that is true.. Our problem is the ease of portaling and lack of NIL money to stay competitive within the BSC and to lock in players who have greener pastures. His weakness is not playing the portal game early on and perhaps even now but that could be a money thing. Collins is sharp and he has a plan. May or may not include Best in a year or two (maybe get the ok to buyout his last year). Gonna be hard to compete without NIL money as even a $1,000 could make a difference in securing players.

We can also give kids more reasons to stay outside of money. Baldwin fostered a family like culture of winning. Kupp decided to stay his senior year instead of declaring early for the NFL cause he wanted to win a championship with his team/friends (and to probably pad his stats). Idk the culture these days but it doesn't seem that great, and not even being the discussion for playoffs is not good. They do need more money too. I heard they get like only $3500 a quarter while they treat football like a full time job.

I do think AB is probably a great guy outside of football. However, nice guys get fired all the time in any type of profession. However, being a nice guy doesn't make you a great leader in your profession. AB had some success until 2021 with players that largely Beau Baldwin helped recruit. AB was great asst coach under a Great head coach. ( In his defense he has recruited and developed some good players but they have transferred out for some unknow the reason). Other asst football coaches were salivating wanting to coach under BB. We cant say the same about AB. When BB took over the program he took it to new levels and AB has made EWU irrelevant One glaring mistake is that he burned the bridge with Cooper KUPP for EWU. If PLU is receiving more money than EWU than that is unforgivable.

In a nutshell wins and losses make the man regardless of the circumstances. AB is a mediocre coach and we are seeing that with the results that he as produced. EWU is living on the past residuals of Coach BB success and those residuals are quickly eroding away like a sinking foundation. I don't like to see any person lose their job but accountability has to enforced. If EWU doesn't have a decent season this year than EWU has to lose money and buy this guy out. Lynn Dickey was a lousy hire as well.
