Potential Head Coaches

After doing some research I see that football roughly spends 3 million a year and generates 6 million. I was under the assumption that the football program lost money with all the talk every year of dropping down to D2. Granted it's always brought up by faculty that hates athletics.
You make a valid point about lost revenue vs. what a new coach would bring in. Granted there would be initial excitement with new coach then results on the field would have to make the difference. I just think of Idaho after Paul Petrino's contract expired and the excitement that that coach Eck brought to their program.
Attendance for the Montana state game was 5,300, I didn't see the game but I suspect that at least 25% were bobcat fans. Sorry but a game hosting the defending national champions should be a sellout. That would be another 4,000 tickets at a price of min. 20 dollars each and you've already made up at a minimum
$100,000 not counting concession or parking. Then the following game at home against the Griz.

I haven't seen much of AD Tim Collins but he's a relatively young good looking guy that is probably looking forward to bigger and better things and knows that bringing in a coach that can win will help the university, fundraising and himself and he's not going to get that with coach Best.

The one thing I don't have a feel for is how well is CB liked/respected by the administration and his players and by the campus community. I think Best was great as a offensive line coach but not a head coach.

Here is a link gives some insight to EWU financials.
Well football and men's basketball tend to be revenue sports that support the rest of athletics.

Yea I totally agree. I actually made a post awhile back for average attendance for home games.

Last year was the lowest since covid, and almost half of the peak in 2017.

I was looking to buy tickets for homecoming then possibly Montana State and Montana State all the cheap seats in the endzone were sold out a week or two in advance whereas there were plenty for homecoming. So you're right a lot probably were Montana State fans. Same is true for Montana.

A disturbing amount are still for sale on the home/sideline side just a week out. Looks like 40% at least.

Even if Eastern were broke it might be a good idea to go into debt/more debt to stop the bleeding. Its harder and harder to wash the stink of being a loser program off each season that passes.

Yea I would like to think AD Collins doesn't want to piss away all his hard work fundraising and improving facilities on a 4-5 win a season head coach. I guess football isn't the only sport but it is the big one.

Great post Tang Clan, at all costs coach AB has to go. EWU is at a serious crossroads and its going to keep worse. Bleed now and regroup with vision, or bleed out like we are doing now and die on the vine with serious consequences that we might be able to to overcome.

Yea, every year that goes by they'll lose more and more people. Some of which they will never get back. They'll just find something else to do with their Saturdays. Montana in the past would be sold out by now. They would have to add those old rickety bleachers they did sometimes.

Eagledawg makes a good point. Assuming pre-covid attendance, so about 8,300 which is about 3,000 more than last year per game. General admission, endzones seats are $30 each. 6 home games this year.

3,000 x $30 x 6 = $540,000

Attendance might be less, but tickets are generally more $55 to $75 but you gotta figure at least $500k lost on tickets sales alone. How much are we missing out on tailgate spots, concessions, merch etc?

I don't even think we need to be super good like before. Just have a good, competitive team that can sometimes beat the top conference teams, the Montanas etc and go to the playoffs sometimes. Getting blown out by the Montana schools at home is just embarrassing but I'm sure they love it.

Good news for Eastern's competition isn't doing that well either lol. Idaho is getting better but WSU is pretty bad.

This is what really gets me angry. EWU under Arevalo, Beau Baldwin , AD chavers did a supreme job with very little resources. They got EWU to a point of respectability which was a hard thing to do considering we did more with less.
When they all left, the administrations (i am incuding everyone who was involved in making important decisons to advance EWU even further at that time) let EWU go down the drain. All previous advancements and gains GONE. Its like handing the reins to your kid and he squanders everything. TERRIBLE decisions lead to disastrous consequences. We had it going and let it slip away, we squandred away a great opportunity. Now we have possibly even a harder uphill battle in front of us. We are regressing when had a great opportunity to progress forward with a path that was already paved for us.

Guys, there is no question the football program is fading into the abyss after squandering the riches of a National Championship in 2010. I am sure a few of the academics love seeing the fall but I know the rest of the Eagle Alum, administration, etc. are painfully frustrated. I am beyond angry...

I wish that we could take the passion from this board and figure out a way to come up with a solution to present to Collins. Collins wants to make a splash, do big things and be onto the next bigger gig. The guy is clearly dynamic, I feel like if we could open the right door for him, he could make something happen. I definitely did not have this faith in Hickey... she handcuffed us to Best for crying out loud.

Does anyone know of a group of fundraiser's that might be able to put something together that could buy out Best's contract? I know the football team has a group called the Eagle Football Network (EFN) that raises funds for the team but they are very snuggly with Best. Do we put out a donation bucket in the tailgate on game day (I bet the Montana fans would donate to it,lol, EWU sucking does not help strength of schedule and the Big Sky as a whole). Start a go fund me? Bake Sales? Know of a big donor that will fund stadium renovations with strings attached? These are all silly ideas, I am trying to make the point that whining about the situation is a like a broken record, I am tired of hearing it and I want some constructive ideas so we can start playing some good music again.

It is cool to compile the data of the current shitastrophe, we need to deliver it to Collins and let him know we are aware and concerned and it is probably worse than numbers we come up with. I doubt he likes this mess on his watch. Alright, the reality is, I have nothing, just like the rest of these posts, I just want to win or at least have fun watching. Let's bitch this thing in the right direction.
