Prediction Thread EWU 31 @ NAU 26

Every game against NAU in Flagstaff seems to turn into a barn burner. That game from a few years back where they threw up a last second hail mary to win the game still stings. I will go with:

Eagles-48 (2 OT)
NAU-45

RIP Burt Reynolds...

Stopping Emmanuel Butler while simultaneously not getting gashed by their RBs will be a tall task for the defense. It's the first big test of the season where we'll see what we've really got. The second game of every season seems to be a problem for us.

Do you man Josh Lewis up with him and carry Prunty over the top in a cover 2 look? Ultimately, we can't leave him manned up, but we can't drop 7 every play either.

Um... Yes. :-) Humor aside, not sure who their other playmakers are. Strong advocate for doubling these really good WR's in the past but haven't seen our coaches use that approach. Every year we nearly get beat by the other teams SINGLE outstanding athlete (US Davis last year) We had this discussion a few seasons ago, the Offense is our best defense until proven otherwise. I think the defense is talented, so they will make enough plays behind the offense to get this done. Keep up the pressure, disguise the blitz when possible, double Butler, stop the run all sound like good ideas

Sensed and saw a real difference last week. This one could be for the conference as NAU has a weaker slate. Hate starting talk like this early, but if Eag's don't beat them, good chance no one else does.

More than one way to skin a Lumberjack.

Technically this is non-conference, so we could lose this, and go undefeated the rest of the Big Sky games and tie NAU if they also went undefeated.

Keeping Cookus out of rhythm and scrambling will be the key to stopping Butler. But we have to contain him as well.
