Prediction Weber @ EWU (for the playoffs)

Eags win at home after a slow start coming off the bye... Didn't want ya'll to be kept in suspense. Lots already said on the "rest of the season prediction thread"

Facts are facts; GG throws a lot of picks and fumbles have been a consistent theme all season from WR's and RB's after good gains. Guess they could be effort fumbles, just look ugly to me.

If there are any combination of 2-3 TO's and/or 4-5 three and outs not giving the D a rest, this game will be in the rearview mirror in a hurry. Weber is talented and their HC has them playing well.

Eags in a close one 42 - 38 (no TO's)

Weber in a runaway with any TO's and 3 and outs 54-27 and kiss the playoff's goodbye.

Talk about hedging your bets :ohno:

Spot on Lucky, look at the top 10 in turnover margin and then find us. I'll summarize, we SUCK.
http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs/current/team/29/p1
Even Sac State is #14 +9 while EWU is -11 tied for #115 :ohno: (there are only 123 teams!!)
Frankly, it is somewhat of a miracle we have won 5 games this season.

I think both teams will end up making the playoffs when all is said and done. Even IF WSU loses this weekend they will finish 8-3. Weber had to beat either Montana or EWU, thankfully they beat the Griz!!
With that said I think this will be a very close game but I think WSU wins by 3.
Wish I could make it up there for this game, should be a great one!!

Although the weather is supposed to be crap, the good news is that wind shouldn't be bad. That seems to be the wet blanket in the passing game more often than not.

I have the Eags taking this one 38-31 with a Weber TD late.

That sums it up. As I was writing this morning, all my brain kept saying was; we suck at turning the ball over this year. Knew is was bad, but 115th is AWFUL. Taking care of the ball should be the top priority and could influence play calling. Anyone think we can run the ball effectively against Weber? Only saw one Weber game and think we can, but open to a less subjective observation.

We can cut down on turnovers by having some semblance of a running game besides Gubrud taking it himself. Anytime an opposing team can drop everyone and you still need to throw it to move the chains, bad things happen.

Still, I think the big issue isn't that we can't score points, it's that we can't stop the other team from scoring them. The 19 we kept Montana State to was kind of a false sign of improvement. We need to be keeping teams in the mid 20s, and thereby not force the offense to outscore everyone or chase a game if we get behind.

Wouldn't that be more of a billowing blanket?

Lineman... :ohno:

We got rest and rejuvenated as well as some injuries
reanimate taken care of with cocktails of steroids and cortisone. Revivify and giving new life to old beat up muscle groups EWU will be ultra focused going into match knowing what it means and just what it takes. I'm sure most caught the beatdown Montana put on that qb...two targeting penalties right in the chest,,,I could feel those! He has been less than active this week of practice taking it easy with his grandsons and daughters. He's really quite beat up. We will play a solid game 38-28.

I see it going two ways. Our offense and defense come out hungry and on a mission, allowing us to get up early and ride to a smooth victory. Or GG could make a couple mental mistakes/or skills fumble the ball away. It might give Weber enough opportunities to sneak out a win. It's hard to win on the Inferno, but with the injurys upfront to the D-line some teams have had success running up the middle. Good news is Tuili is back next year 😈

Ha!

We've had issues coming off of bye's the past few years, however if this team wants to be a contender the need to be hungry! Hoping for the defense to show up and stuff the run and make them beat our secondary.

38-28 EWU.

Hopefully we can reverse the trend of continually vomiting the football up during inopportune times and allowing the opposing teams to score with a short field. I think we're a year away from being a playoff caliber team.

Weber State 45
EWU 17

This is a huge game with conference championship and playoff implications. If we can slow them down on the ground and limit their 3rd down attempts, I could see this becoming a defensive slugfest if the conditions are bad in Cheney.

EWU 27, WSU 20

Echoing previous comments about TO's. We need to limit them to 1 or 2, and it is a fine line. The thing is, with our offense, you know we're going to take some shots down the field. I can accept a pick or 2 in a game where we're trying to stretch the field with the long ball. We have to do it.

What I can't accept is TO's made because of poor decisions (I.E. unnecessary). Honestly, some of those have come from Gage trying to make too much happen.

The keys are efficiency on offense combined with a couple stops early on and force Weber to play from behind. We need to make a ball control offense uncomfortable.

IMO it comes down to turnovers and my pet peeve penalties. Turnovers are obvious but penalties stop drives and ultimately the other team gets the ball back too soon.
The Eagles need to get yards on 1st and 2nd down, we can not be looking at 3rd and long all of the time and expect to win.
Get the ball to our playmakers, regardless if it is run or pass, create ways to get the ball to playmakers in space and they will keep the chains moving.
If we play offense like our players are capable of we win, if not our defense can not slow the Wildcats down enough times to keep us in the game.
As I started earlier turnovers and penalties will keep the defense on the field too much to Webers advantage.

Agree.

To my untrained eye it still looks like we're challenged in the power running game and it's going to take more time before we transform into what Best wants in that regard. If that's the case, I'd love to see more misdirection/jet sweep/rb screens and short passing on 1st and 2nd to stay on schedule, avoid 3rd and longs and set up the run later in the game. We seem to have too many series where it's run for little gain on 1st, miss an intermediate to deeper route on 2nd, and face 3rd and long.

Weber State 45
EWU 17

Texas Tech and NDSU might have been able to hold us to 17 early in the season, but I don’t think Weber can or will.
