Predictions EWU vs. PSU Wk13 Clubber Lang Wins!!!

Each of these games make me nervous and PSU is no exception. They have played us tough of late but I think our boys are hungry for an undefeated BSC record and outright title and will be up for the task.

God bless and Go Eagles!

loloman,
Haven't been able to get out and see the practices, due to having the "FLU". I was so happy to see Todd in the line-up on Saturday against Cal Poly. I understood he was done for the season. I for on is happy to see him on the field. Todd is an outstanding player. I was worried after we lost #30 Darryl Bauemonte (sp), him and #21 Bo Schuetzle are like our "Patroitt Missals. On kick off once they lock on you, "IT IS OVER" :thumb: :thumb: :thumb. Remember in Saint Thomas Virgin Islands my mon used to tell me, give your A-- to me and your sole to "GOD", because I am going to bust your butt. That is when I was a little BRAT ;) ;) growing up. Hope he and the other injuries get healed for the run in the Play offs. I am struggling with should I go to the game this Saturday, or stay home and watch it on TV. I did attend one of the games, few days later I got sick and have been down ever since. Did attend and watch practice for about 5 minutes before the BB Game last night, stayed in my car. Here is hoping I feel better for this Saturday. Take care. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Vic, thanks. It was nice to see him back out there. So sorry to hear that you are still under the weather. Best to stay inside this time a. Watch it on TV. We will need you for the stretch run to Frisco. Take care of yourself.
GO EAGS!!!

EWUmomma/loloman,
I am about 50/50 for attending the game. I hate to miss the game that will make us the "Big Sky Champions", it is very hard to deal with. Saw Cassidy, VA, Cooper Kupp, Fred Gonzalez, Clay DeBerg, Ashton Clark, and a few more of our Players last night at the BB Gsme laast night. I noticed another thing about our Players last night. They were attempting to exit the game from the East End of Reese Court, they were told they had to go out and around to get to the lots where their vehicles were parked. I can honestly say those young men are so disciplined, none of them made any arguments with the gentleman that was instructing them. I just sat there in my seat and "SMILED to myself" Most places there might have been an argument, etc. Everyone of them turned away and walked through the Ramp Door, and up to the lot behind the FB Field, with smiles on their faces. Great Bunch of Young men. My daughter keeps telling me dad you are now retired and is no longer a Cop, but I am used to observing things around me, and see how it affects people. It is nice and sunny right here, but it is cold. EWUmomma, Let me know when the feed for the Players is coming, will love to be there again. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

The funny thing about Portland State is that their stats don't bear out that they are a middle of the road team. They are at or near the top of every offensive category. They are in the middle of the pack in most defensive categories (except pass defense, which will likely be their Achilles heel in this game). Perhaps some of that is buffered by their two sub-DI games and the fact they played great when they stepped up and played Cal (a couple of atrocious calls killed them).

I think Eastern will come out fired up, but this may look like an Idaho State-ish game where even the losing team posts a lot of points. For recruiting purposes, this is a game that desperately needs to be won... Nigel Burton does a good job of getting in kids' ears. Hell, he almost took both Shaq Hill and Vernon away from Eastern late in the game.

They will definitely put some points on the board. They have a very good running back, and their tall wideout is a concern. MSU's big receivers definitely hurt us catching passes over the middle. This game will come down to who plays better defense. At home, I think we get the edge in this one.

You'd have to think it would require a pretty big letdown to lose this one. We almost gave it up to them last year in Portland; they played well and we just played. But the upside of this year's Eagles versus last year is that this team has a lot more killer instinct. When we get a chance to separate, we do it. Again, unless we have a total letdown, I think Portland State is going to have to get points on every possession or hope for a lot of turnovers.

But I agree, our defense needs to step up. This is a good test for them.

I don't think their pass-defense is all that great this season. I think our running game will be good enough to keep them off balance and hit a couple deep ones. Will also be interesting to see who's back off of injury for this game.

Their pass D has been atrocious, so you'd have to think it'll be a banner day for Adams and Vitto. We should be able to score a bunch of points. The only shot the Viks have is to try and match us score for score. I'd hope our defense can keep them under wraps.

Does anyone know if Allen Brown is back yet? The rumor was that he'd be available for this one. Having a big hitting safety like Brown will be a big asset against a team that plays like PSU.

Weird Stats for PSU, they move the ball but only score TD's at about half the pace of EWU with a majority of TD's on the ground. A lower scoring total for PSU in this game is probably in order, as many have posted in this thread. HUGE Inferno atmosphere takes it out of PSU early after EWU score's on big play or defensive stop.

PSU 112th in Red Zone scoring, 3rd in overall offense, 85th in overall defense. They have given up 35 TD's and scored 34 TD's

EWU 9th in RedZone scoring (60 TD's scored, only 28 TD's in Red Zone: Awesome Big Plays), 4th in overall Offense, 97th in overall Defense.

I'm a little bit worried about this. We've had fantastic attendance all year, with the exception of perhaps the early September game against Western Oregon. A lot of season ticket holders didn't come to that one, and the students were not back yet. Traditionally, this weekends game has been the type that people don't show up to. Playoffs are clinched, starters may not play as much, it's going to be COLD, and the Cougs play at home the same day with a chance to clinch their first bowl berth since 2003. The students should be there, although after half, many will be gone as the sun goes down and the rout is on. Last I heard, there was less than 100 tickets left. I think our run of 10,000+ ends this weekend, and I predict 8,800.

As for the game, well it's time for the prediction! PSU will not be able to stop our passing attack and can only hope to slow down the running game. We'll give up some points, and Vitto will play most of the 2nd half. PSU will add a couple late garbage TD's, but our 1st string D will do a pretty good job again of slowing em down. Oh, and I think we're going to kick, and make a FG!

Eastern Washington EAGS- 52
