What say you Eagle Nation! WHAT SAY YOU!!!

Eagle 45 - 28 over JSU

EWU wins coin flip.

Tight game until EWU goes 4 or 5 wide and challenges the whole field with sure handed WR's. Running game contributes with draws against good up field rush by JSU. D keeps JSU under average per carry and causes 2-3 TO's with pressure on young QB. D will maintain line of scrimmage and minimize big plays in the running game from RB's and QB. Look for one of the 5th year seniors to make a couple significant plays in the defensive backfield. Let the game begin!

Is that the Aussie soccer player?

The Australian is our punter, Hamish MacInnes. He played Australian rules football, a very different game from soccer. He's adapted to his role in the American game quite well. I hope you won't get to see him play, though.

Vs the rabbits the Eagles proved again they are a 40+ point team. South Dakota was supposed to be this stone wall (more like a corn row) defense, they did keep passing yardage down from average, but the Eagles still scored 41 points. We lost a fumble inside their 5 and went to pretty much all run game in the 4th or the score would have been much higher.
I can't see us not scoring at least that 40+ again. Even if the Jax can score 1 TD and 1 FG per qtr. that puts them at 40 best case scenario. Our D has really been playing lights out so I doubt that will happen though.
Eagles 48 - 6 td's 2 fg's
Gamecocks 28

JSU kicker, Grifin Thomas, kicks 42 yd FG to win it...

Is that the Aussie soccer player?

Hammish MacIinnes (Hame-ish Mac-inn-ess)...is a great punter. He kicks with his right and left leg and can kick the same distance with both. I met his parents at the Florida/JSU game last year, and they were telling me that Australian Rules Football (similar to Rugby, but not quite) requires the players to learn to kick with both legs. He was discovered by the former staff at a Las Vegas kicking camp...offered on the spot.

I'm with Jaxsinfonian...hopefully, the only time you see him punt is in the warm-ups....

Everything I am seeing about this game points to our victory. Whatever everyone else is saying about the "close" game just doesn't seem possible to me. I'm predicting EWU being in control most of this ball game.

Eastern: 44 (one field goal, one missed PAT)
JSU: 24 (We have longer time of possession, giving JSU a lower score than McNeese)

I'm not buying the Ohio Valley Conference as a powerhouse this year. No way they all went from chumps to champs in one year. Eastern Illinois may be good, but I think Jacksonville State is a mirage. :stir:

Thanks. Sounds like a good kicker. Time to revise my score prediction maybe? 4 FG's instead of 4 TD's

On another note the roster says your big back is only 220 lbs; he looks more like Jerome Bettis to me. What does he really weigh in at?

Was just watching the JSU - McNeese replay. McNeese played like crap and I know they're way more talented than that. But JSU has some speedy athletes, the big RB reminds me of Chatman, and the young QB is not your typical option quarterback. He has a very good arm and throws with some touch on the deep routes.

Me thinks more than a few of you are a wee bit overconfident with this one. We have our hands full.

I am among the over confident crowd, but I don't mind. If I am wrong, I am always willing to eat my crow.

I just can't get past how Jacksonville state got brutally bent over and destroyed by Eastern Illinois, 52-14. You don't call yourself a contender when you have been bent over like that by almost any school. The only possible excuse for this is if you faced a top 10 FBS school. For perspective, That is a score differential worse than Sam Houston vs Texas A&M. And SHSU isn't even in the running!

We are a contender. Jacksonville State is not. That is why I am comfortable with this game.

Probably 235-240...he's quick and powerful and a freaking beast of a back  . I think 4 TD's sounds better than 4 FG's!!!

Nice prediction on your board JSUalumnus, guess we will see. Doubt your RB goes for 250 when JSU falls behind and has to play catch up.

JSU 38
EWU 34

Our Cocks are thinking straight  and they are totally focused on what they need to do. I totally believe there is something special going on here.

This EWU QB is more active than anyone we've seen except maybe Garropolo and German, so I say 3 sacks, but we limit the big plays to 1...if that. James runs for over 250 and 2 TD's. Eli scores 1 and throws for 2. Griffin wins the game with a 42 yarder...

You are right, I will say that JSU will win the Coin Toss.

We will boat race them - 45-6...

I think sacks with an over/under of 4 is a decent bet if Jacksonville State tries to bring the pressure like they did against McNeese. While Adams is more elusive than most running backs, he is a bit more prone to sacks than you might realize at first glance. He sort has that same big play mentality that Taiwan Jones did; every know and then, it would result in a monumental failure and big lost yardage... but when it works, holy shit, it is a thing of beauty.

The difference, IMO, is that Vernon has a much more natural "football sense" about him and generally knows when it is OK to take a big risk and when it is a bad idea. Therefore, when the sacks happen, it usually isn't a major problem.

If I had one complaint about Vernon (and you pretty much have to look for something to criticize, because he has been darn near flawless), it's that he sometimes looks to throw when he can just take easy yardage with his feet. I always prefer to make the first down yardage before trying to do more. Sometimes Vernon looks like Moses when our OL parts the opposing DL like the Red Sea, and he has nothing but daylight in front of him, yet he still chooses to throw. That's the only thing that makes me unhappy.

This must be something that is ingrained in QB's DNA. Bo Levi did that a lot too. Matt Nichols was the only QB I can remember that really understood when to run and when to throw.
