So does anyone know whats going on with Mike Proctor?? He is wearing what looks like a cast on his wrist and how long is he going to be out??? We need him healthy !!

Geez, guys, you REALLY have got to listen to the broadcasts--it was announced on the Coaches Show last Monday, and was a topic during Saturday night's broadcast both in pre-game with B.J. and in setting up the keys for the night. Oh, and morning sports on KFKA Tuesday morning as well. 8)

4-6 weeks is Proctor's prognosis. He broke his right thumb, likely when catching himself when taking a charge against B-C. The good news is that he didn't need to have a pin inserted, which would have added to the recovery time.

I haven't responded because injuries are a touchy subject, and, in the interest of gamesmanship, we didn't want to disclose anything that wasn't already reported -- sometimes it's a blessing to have a lackluster print media presence :) -- but I'll add one thing here:

The injury happened against Valparaiso, and Mike played through the pain against Bethune-Cookman.

Tell Troy to keep quiet and nobody would ever know anything. :D We could go into Big Sky play like Mike Shannahan went into each NFL game.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, the Bears have to move forward without arguably their best rebounder for a big stretch of games coming up in the next month or so. Unfortunately, with this injury, the Osborne injury, and with Montgomery being injury-plagued throughout his entire career here, UNC is extremely fragile in the frontcourt. The big key here is that all five guys on the floor will have to help rebound. I know Coach Hill was excited that Elliott Lloyd, our starting point guard, came down with 7 rebounds in the Black Hills St. game, there will need to be more of that in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, with forcing all five guys to hit the boards, it will certainly effect the transition game, we can't have one of our guards streak down the court for what would be a quick bucket off of a miss right now.

On the Coaches Show last night, Hill expressed he felt the team could make up for Proctor's nine points per game in his absence, but he felt the real key would be making up for his defensive presence/rebounds. The injuries are a real shame for the players and the team as a whole, especially as they prepare for Illinois and CSU, two higher profile schools who have more size up front than teams do in the Big Sky, but it will be a good learning point for the squad as they move forward and look to make a push for the Big Sky Conference title.

Hey, if coach didn't say anything on the coaches show... 8) Had he not disclosed it publicly, I would have danced the step-around. As for when it happened, that was going off what B.J. said Monday night, in the hours after Mike's visit to the doc.

Coach Hill was misremembering then. :)

Mike played with his hand wrapped and for just 12 minutes against Bethune-Cookman after suffering the injury against Valparaiso. He was able to play through the pain -- for a time. A long-term fix was needed once we got back home.

Given how we all struggled with which day was which by the end of that trip, its entirely possible he "misremembered". Another one of those stories for the annals. :)
