So, we are either going to win our games 31-28, or we are going to lose our games, 31-28. Interesting.

I can buy this one. It's all kind of a crapshoot at this point as half the teams got through their modified spring schedule, and then Montana played two games, PSU played one, and Montana State, Sac State and Northern Colorado didn't play any. Hard to gauge at this point, but I would at least put PSU above Poly and UNC. Can't see us even now as the worst in the conference. I think too many people are basing their decision on our game at Missoula when it seemed like we treated it like a spring game more than a real one.

Excited to see the media and coaches poll this coming week.

Good place to start. I think we are going to be better than this, but for now, coming out of the pandemic, this is fine.

Like the last two seasons I'm thinking 3 and 5 in conference. With a lot of luck maybe .500.

I'm more optimistic, as usual. Montana State has a new coach and pretty much a new staff. They could be dangerous later in the season which is why I like playing them the first conference game. I think we can surprise them. At SUU, and home games against Idaho State and Poly should be wins. Idaho is probably going to go with their grad transfer from UConn at QB (although the kid from Mercer Island looked pretty good during the pandemic) so we could get a win there. We could possibly be 5-0 in conference going into our tough stretch at the end (at Weber, at Sac, EWU at home).

I say 6-2 conference, 7-4 overall, heading to Missoula for a first round playoff game.

Is this the last year of Barnum’s contract ?

THAT is a very good question.

Got an interim contract after 2014, signed for 5 years most of the way through the 2015 season, and short of Google completely missing follow-up news, no word on whether 2020 doesn’t count as a season. Guessing it doesn’t and this is the last year.

That makes Cleary’s departure even more messy.

Not sure how messy it will be, but I sure hope we can be less ‘ touchy feely ’ when it comes to handing off the reins to the future of the football program . Hopefully a shorter initial contract with some bonafide results and a hire with some head coaching experience, even from a lower level division.

Before Val was hired, Tim Walsh apparently had expressed interest in the AD position. Wonder if he might still be?

Maybe. I heard he was coaching high school football in L.A. I guess it is worth a shot.

Neil Olshey may be looking for an admin job of any kind pretty soon.

Soon September 4 will be here and a few folks are writing about the Vikes.

Another Montana transplant writing about PSU. As long as he doesn't skew things towards the Cats or Griz when we play them  .

Otherwise, I can get into it. :thumb:

Thanks fellas!

I appreciate all the readers I get. To clear up some questions from earlier in the thread, Barnum signed an extension in June that keeps him as head coach until 2023. He gets a one-year extension if he wins at least six games any time in that stretch.

Also, I worked in Montana for about 10 years but I grew up in Michigan and don't have any allegiances to either of those schools. I did however enjoy covering FCS football and the league while I was there, which is why I wanted to continue doing so when my wife's job relocated us to the Portland area. You'll get Portland State-focused content all year including a healthy skepticism of the Montana schools and some of the storylines that surround those programs.

Thanks again for reading! New stuff out every Sunday and Wednesday in the fall!
