Sort of like the fall huh? :o

Good one,

Weber State beat Idaho State at ISU, better plan that trip to the DEE in March 8-)

It is a given in college basketball that sometimes good teams lose to inferior teams. Few teams ever win all their conference teams, and it is a well know fact that when the conference leader comes into town the team is up for the game and they will play harder to try to knock them off. Now that Weber is the leader, the target has shifted to them and teams will play them harder maybe more physical and that my friends is when bad things begin to happen when. The rest of the season will be, if you pardon the pun, will be a real catfight between the top three teams and the others are waiting to play the spoiler.

Remember the old adage... "Success is fleeting, it can be taken away much faster than it is given."

I promise you that if Weber or Montana stumble, I won't be as insulting as you two are, but rather remind you that your teams can still redeem themselves in the conference tourney.

I agree...hosting is one thing but its all about the conf tourney...thats all that matters, just win 2 games or 3 games depending on the seed.

Portland State's biggest weakness is physicality & toughness and Montana exploited that this time. Also interesting was that Bone benched Dominguez for almost all of the final 9-and-a-half minutes of the game.

How so?

I didn't watch the game, but in looking at the stats, we outscored UM in the paint 32 - 24, but lost the rebounding battle.

Just seems to me that we put up too many three pointers and didn't hit enough of them.

Montana won the boards 36-29, and 21-11 in the second half. A lot of PSU's paint points were off transition and a couple defensive breakdowns. They didn't muscle it in much, particularly after the first 5 or so minutes when people other than Jones started scoring. The Viks also only could manage to get to the line 9 times (and made only 4), so they probably weren't aggressive enough at taking it inside.

PSU was really active and fast paced on both sides of the ball for most of the game, but they really seemed to run out of gas over the last 12 minutes or so. Montana was able to run their stuff late without much dangerous pressure or harassment and that really helped them.

The Vikings actually played pretty well, but Montana had a good gameplan and outplayed PSU last night. Montana is a big & physical team (particularly on defense), and that gave PSU some problems and made them more one-dimensional in the second half.

You commended Rainbear on his remarks, so to me, that is as bad as laughing in our face. The season has yet to be played out and I have the feeling first place will change hands with every game Weber, Montana and PSU plays. The team that hosts has yet to be determined

I didnt commend Rainbear, he said the tourny was going to be held in Missoula, and I said Good one, like he was telling a joke, and my comment of Weber hosting the tourny was directed at Rainbear, not PSU fans. I wasnt being rude to PSU fans I was just laughing at Rainbears post.

I didn't realize that a lot of PSU's points were in transition. The fast break points went 4-0 to UM, so I couldn't read too much into that.

Was UM's ability to run their sets late due to JD being on the bench? JD pressures the ball well up top.

Big Sky disappointment

I'm hardly a basketball expert, but that was probably part of it. It sounds like Dominguez was benched because he was frustrated (he also wasn't making shots).

Unfortunately, fast break points are always kind of a worthless stat because they don't happen much, usually only on breakaway steals or cases were someone gets behind the defense immediately from what I've seen. I've seen countless box scores where the fast break points were something meaningless like 4-2 or 2-0. Points in the paint are also a misleading stat because free throws coming off fouls in the paint don't count as points in the paint.
