PSU Crowds

Curious what the typical turn out is like at a Viking football game.

My son and I ventured in to the city to take in the game this weekend - what a great venue - what a lousy turn out...

Was quite surprised at the lack of a student section of any note. Is this typical or is it due to the holiday weekend?

We made the trip in after hearing coach Burton on the radio. Love his enthusiasm, we will likely make another game or two this year.

Yep, school is not in session yet, and it was a holiday weekend. Not that we have huge crowds, but that probably was a big part of the dismal crowd today.

That helps explain things. Maybe with Duck mania ebbing a bit and the difficulties at Oregon State, PSU can pick up some additional fans this season.

Even when school was in session lat season there was no student section to speak of. Hopefully that will change this year when the stadium is close to campus.

That's because it's difficult for a lot of students to make the trek to Hillsboro. Should be much better this year.

It was certainly better two weeks ago in the MSU game. First decent student section since last year's Freshman Frenzy (coincidence, perhaps?).

Same attendance in our game last week. I'm guessing that unless something big occurs in the next two weeks or so, we're going to finish with an average of around 5-6 k per game.

I wonder, after today's big win in Cheney, if that will get the fanbase excited. It's not the same as beating the Montana schools, but it's still a big win.

I read the Lewis & Clark might get over 3,000 for their home game this week. It would be pathetic if we couldn't at least double that number.

I have two daughters at PSU and my wife and Father in law are alums....So Ducks are a dirty word in our house. We have gone to the last several home games this year and I was disappointed by the student section on Saturday. My daughters, one lives on campus the other at home and commutes both were there. I'm not sure why there doesn't seem to be more excitement from the students, especially the Freshmen. The ones living on campus, do so wanting to have the "college" atmosphere, and going to the game on Saturday is certainly part of that. I can only guess that once coach Burton's Oregon kids start playing (especially the ones from the Portland area) it may get more excitement brewing for the local students. My daughters will still go either way, they have met a few of the players, and want to support their friends.

PSU used to average over 10,000 per game. The last 4 years of losing has really taken a toll on the program. Winning again wil make the Vikings relevant and the crowds will come back but it won't happen overnight. We need to keep winning.

I don't even want to get started on the attendance for the game, because that was downright pathetic. C'mon, people, we have five wins this season, and just beat the defending National Champs, and yet we draw fewer fans than our game against SOU. :ohno:
