PSU @ Southern Utah

There is no reason PSU doesn't get five more conference wins. But it has to start this week. Who would think that UCD would be 2-0 in conference right now?

Some how Burton has got to make this team believe in themselves and they can still come out with a decent record and something to continue to build upon. One out of the last two games was a must win to make some noise in extended play. That probably isn't going to happen now, but if Burton can't deliver the goods starting this week, his recruiting is going to suffer and that will be difficult to overcome over the long haul.

No more excuses. This team isn't that young. This team isn't that inexperienced.

Those camouflage uniforms need to go. They need to make this team earn the right to wear the style. Back to basics.

Let's start here......Shoemaker, Lopez and Rothstein have got to add to this figure: 4 to 8 yard runs are killing us:

By the way of all our stat leaders I haven't seen Rothstein playing in 2 or 3 games now. Is he injured?
We need to get behind these defensive leaders and we need to hope the offense can carry it's weight against big sky teams and stop the turnovers and ridiculous penalties and we can go on a run.

Stat leaders?

Here's some conference stats:

Scoring defense: last
Total defense: last
Rushing defense: last
Sacks by: tied for last
Opp 4th down conversion: tied for last
Red zone defense: tied for last

Yeah, this doesn't help:

Turnover margin: last

Small sample size, but our defense isn't exactly lighting up the conference in the two games this year.

Rothstein was in the player participation section of the game recap.

I'm listing the players that are busting ass and making plays on defense. I'm saying let's applaud their effort. They don't control everyone else's effort. I watched the game a second time last night and I notice they use Rothstein on some special teams but not in the game accept for a couple plays, I also notice they took David Edgerson out in the second half which would be ridiculous the way he is playing. I'm telling you these two have to have been injured in the game at some point because we are lacking production at OLB big time and to take Shoemaker out of the middle and put him at OLB is nuts.

I don't ever remember seeing an injury report so I don't believe we do one.

The radio broadcast mentioned that Edgerson and Shoemaker both got hurt during the course of the Montana game.

LAST MEETING, Sept. 22, 2012: Southern Utah 49, Portland State 42

Southern Utah overcame an 18-point deficit to beat Portland State, 49-42, in a shootout at JELD-WEN Field. The Vikings outgained the Thunderbirds by nearly 200 yards, 587-397, but committed four turnovers and had 14 penalties to hurt their cause. The T-Birds scored 17 points off Viking turnovers.

Portland State led 21-3 in the first quarter and 28-13 in the second quarter. PSU trailed 49-42 with 1:35 to play, but mounted a final drive. The Vikings had first-and-goal at the two-yard line with 18 seconds to play. But with two running plays and two passes could not punch it across for a tying score.

No one will accuse the Viks of being anything but consistent.

Loomis. 66 yarder into the wind, or was the broadcast incorrect?

I thought we were with the wind in the second half.

Have to wonder about PSU calling a fake field goal on what would be a 58 yard field goal attempt. Unless they somehow got Zach Brown back in uniform, did anyone in the stadium actually think they were going to kick that? Not surprised that they play went nowhere.

Yeah, that was a bit suspect.

We're going to need a big play soon. The offense is not exactly lighting it up today.
