PSU vs U of Wash.

I wished we could have kept it a bit closer, but we really cooled off at the end of the game. Why only 19 minutes for Morrison? Our zone looked great in the first half in shutting down buckets at close range, but not as good in the second half. Tough second half to watch. We'd claw our way back into it and get within four or five points, then all of the sudden we'd be down by twelve. Appleby is amazing. One of the best three point shooters off of the screen I've ever seen.

On a side note. I sure hope that we can bottle up some of the fire and energy that we showed last night. This team really gets up for the big games. A couple examples is the loose ball in the second half that both Mickey and Mara dove for, Alex and JD not backing down from rough play from their defenders, and the amount jump balls that we forced in this game. They need to make sure that we're bringing this energy to every single BSC game this season, else we'll drop UC Davis type games against the have-nots of the conference. If we can show this energy in every conference game, the Tuesday March 4th game against EWU won't be the last PSU home game in Portland this year. ;-)

Not sure why Morrison only played 19 minutes either other than Bone getting frustrated with him. Bone must be wanting to get others more minutes to prepare for conference.

Morrison wasn't very effective yesterday. You'd like to see him play more as a senior, especially against smaller defenders, but yesterday wasn't one of those cases. I'm sure it's tough for him to go through. I think that the Big Sky season will give him the opportunities inside. Bone just needs to run the offense through him.

Exactly Marty. The defensive presence and shot blocking is needed, even on an "off" offensive night. Brockman was held to basically nothing, and took 2 fouls, in the first half, before the Bone-head took over.

And if you show confidence in a player, he'll be more confident in his offensive efforts, and who's to say he wouldn't have scored 6 or 8 in the second half (Julius only got 2).

It's just like Bone sitting Scott against L & C for no reason. if you want to screw with a player's head and self confidence, that's the way to do it.

The team plays better when Scott plays, even if he's not having a big points first half. I think the analogy is like footall, where the running game sets up the passing game. When you have the big presence inside, it sets up the outside game. Just look at the teams record when Scott plays 25+ mins., and even more when he plays 30+.

Don't count on it changing in the Big Sky; look what the Bone-head did against Montana State at home last year. Again, this team should win it all this year, but if they do it will be in spite of the coaches.

I wonder if his physical condition has anything to do with it. He did look like he was in pain when running down the floor. Add to that the game against Cal Poly. When he was in for more than 5-6 minutes, he'd raise his hand to be pulled out of the game. I think he either has more significant knee/back problems than we realize, or he is just plain out of shape. That just gives Bone and Geving the excuse they need to keep him out for long stretches, even though the team is clearly much better with him in there.

I understand the frustration sometimes with the coaches and the coaching decisions but we don't always know the inside scoop. I do know that this coaching staff has brought stability to the program and has built a lot of depth. I think we're quite lucky to have Bone and I hope we keep him for as long as we can. He understands the norhtwest and knows how to recruit here and won't be so eager to run off to the next job like some of the previous coaches we've had.

I love Scott Morrison. But he sometimes frustrates the he-ll out of me when he is so timid on the offensive end. He should be going to the hoop and he should have developed a jump hook.

Anyone notice Scott squaring up his defender (ala Tim Duncan) outside the lane when he had the ball in the UW game rather than just backing down like he usually does? He's done in a few times that I can recall, but I don't think he does it very often. It'd be good to see him use this on some smaller defenders in the BSC.
