PSU VS UW

Eh, not really too optimistic. I suppose it's since we've really not looked good against two of our easier games of the year. However, like you said, it's going to come down to if JD plays. Also, will Phil Nelson play within the game plan? It could be pretty easy for him to want to show UW that he was a talent that 'got away,' but that could lead to bad shot selection.

On the flip side, we looked like crap against L&C last year too, but came back to play a pretty good game on the road against a good WSU team. I really wish we had a JR Moore type guy to throw in there off of the bench. By the way, it's sick that UW plays nine straight games at home. Oh to be a season ticket holder up there. We have a total of five regular season non-conference games at home this season. :-|

Who knows. If we get hot at times during the game, you never know. UW is usually a pretty tough place to play and I think they are much better than their UP loss...

Viks take on Washington, 5 p.m. Sunday (FSN)

The Washington Huskies are expecting some attempt at redemption on the part of Portland State's Phil Nelson when the two teams meet in Seattle, 5 p.m. Sunday (FSN).

"I guarantee," UW coach Lorenzo Romar tells the Seattle Times, "he'd like to get 40 when they play us."

Adds Isaiah Thomas: "He's definitely going to want to light it up."

Nelson played at Washington in 2006-07 before transferring to the Vikings, saying he didn't see eye-to-eye with Romar and coaches. Translation: He wanted more playing time and less harping about his offensive game.

Nelson told a UW blogger this week that, "that would be great (to score 40), but I'm not going to put up 45 shots to get there. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn't, it doesn't. I'm not going to force anything just to try and show them up."

Nelson averages 25 minutes per game and 10.1 points. He's shooting .356 from the floor, .333 on 3-pointers. It's not quite the prolific scoring that many had expected from the 6-7 Nelson, but coach Ken Bone likes the way he has contributed to the 7-1 Vikings. He has been bothered in the past two games with flu-like symptoms.

• Meanwhile, former Portlander and Aloha High center Joe Wolfinger averages only 10 minutes for the Huskies, playing in only six of eight games for UW (5-3).

Big test for the frontline against a big, deep, athletic frontline.Going to be interesting tosee how they hold up on the boards. The Huskies are a very good rebounding team

Somehow this is my first look at the new black road unis. Very nice.

No Brockman tonight? JD's back? I smell an upset.

Hadn't seen the black unis myself, really nice. Even without Brockman this will be a tough game to pull out, but go Viks!!!!!!!!!!! Can we hit a few free throws!!!!!!!!!

If the Viks could make free throws and rebound better we would be ahead at halftime. Washington is getting home cooking on a lot of the calls, but ultimately PSU is getting exposed by their small frontline. I mean when your center is 6-7 and weighs 215 lbs your at a disadvantage against Pac-10 teams. Coston is trying, but he is a finesse player, not a powerful one. As mad as Scott Morrison made me with his passive play, he was 6-11 and 240 lbs. Hope we are hot with the 3s in the 2nd half. Go Viks!
