Portland State and Willamette Law announce new 3+3 program

http://blog.oregonlive.com/higher-education/2016/07/portland_state_and_willamette.html

Willamette University College of Law and Portland State University are launching a new 3+3 Program, allowing students to earn both an undergraduate and law degree (BA/JD) in six years, rather than the traditional seven.

"This accelerated degree program with Portland State has created a new opportunity for ambitious students to pursue their academic goals in a more efficient and affordable way," said Willamette Law Dean Curtis Bridgeman.

The 3+3 Program is an accelerated curriculum for students who want to complete their education more quickly, reducing costs and student loan debt at a time when the cost of higher education is a matter of increasing concern. Willamette Law added the partnership with Portland State to its already existing 3+3 programs with Willamette University College of Liberal Arts, Oregon State University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Students participating in the program will spend their first three years enrolled in undergraduate courses at PSU fulfilling their general education requirements as well as the requirements of their chosen majors and minors. Upon admission, students begin law school courses in their fourth year. Credits earned in the first year of law school will apply to their bachelor's degree as elective credits.

"We are excited to provide PSU students who know they are interested in law with a clear pathway to achieve their future career goal," said Tim Garrison, professor of history and pre-law coordinator at PSU.

The PSU/Willamette Law 3+3 program is now open. Rising juniors at PSU can take the LSAT and apply for entry to Willamette Law in fall of 2017 if they meet the course requirements. For more information on how to enroll please contact Garrison at [email protected] or the Willamette Law Admissions Office at [email protected].
