• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Athletic Facilities

Feels like our very Hornet Edition of Field of Dreams, “If we build it, they will come…”

With some of the notes saying that we’ll be able to play while the construction goes on around the field that makes me feel like maybe the field is staying exactly in place? If there is no track that would be an awful lot of dead space between end zone and The Broad. I can’t keep up between this thread and the other thread where certain things were said but there was a mention of us getting possibly a horseshoe design which would be great done correctly. Close off the side to The Well and slide down the field close to The Broad and close this stadium in! I have always thought the premium seating in the end zone was a cool way to keep fans close and where players can celebrate with them after big plays. I would like to see some style of some club seating still available at field level.

I reflect upon Fulcher scoring that TD and taking drink of beer. That was EPIC. We want memories like that. Not a vanilla new stadium. Something unique for fans and TV to video fans having fun at games!!!

I think field level “beer garden” behind the end zone. Bar stools / various seating small groups. Party Zone! Nice lighting part sun / partly under end zone seating. Food Etc TV’s every angle w our game on!

We need a SIGNATURE Unique social SCENE that will show a FUN & Celebratory time during our games!

Remember needs to fit soccer & rugby too. Not sure MLS soccer dimensions? Or width of those fields?

SAC REPUBLIC I’m sure is going to be part of design approval in exchange for long term lease and upfront $$.

Just looked at a couple of my shots in Snapdragon. 70 yards wide with enough space in the corners to not be too bothersome. Players and fans prefer another 5 yards width. Galaxy’s home was built to go 80 or more, though they don’t draw it that wide these days.

I will mention Autzen in Eugene because there was an international exhibition in there a few years ago. They said it was 70 yards, it looked 68, and if it wasn’t preseason for the clubs involved, the touchlines would be a bit dangerous for being close to the walls. Part of the beauty of Autzen is how closed in it looks and feels for football games, which is why I don’t always advocate sharing. However, Snapdragon seems like the pitch of the stands is a wee bit steeper than Autzen (and has an upper deck), which helps the atmosphere, so this is something that can be done when engineered well.

By the way, San Diego does it with grass.

A. It's not designed yet, so the better part of a year to design plus permitting time, then another 2ish years to build. 4 years sounds about right to me. Better, faster, cheaper. You only get two of those when building things.
I was wondering about the 4 year timeline as well. It only took 2 years to build Lumen Field in Seattle on the site of the imploded Kingdome. During this period, the Seahawks played their 2000 and 2001 seasons in Husky Stadium at the University of Washington. I would've thought being how the new Hornet Stadium is much smaller, it would be constructed in similar timeline (or smaller).

I think both of these venues at Utah State and James Madison are good models for what we can do with a capacity getting to 25,000. Both of these schools have their stadiums listed as such. But both schools look like they could expand on their site if necessary and have a very intimate setting.

I definitely think the Utah state model is in play. But I have always hated the JMU stadium. It looks TOO asymmetrical and unfinished, granted the home side is amazing and I think they eventually want to build all the way around.
