I worry a little about admissions standards. PSU/PSC has always prided itself on being a working class school, with a high percentage of first-in-college students. Does raising standards mean giving that up? I'm thinking of the U Cal system. The few years I taught Freshman Inquiry I had lots of working class students, and on average they were as bright as any, with the "standards" what they are. retention is getting better, but it will always be lower than say Lewis and Clark or George Fox, for obvious reasons. We may have to raise admission standards to deal with the high enrollment, and I wouldn't mind that. We are very very short on classroom space! One classroom in the Unitus building is a dog-leg; students cant' see the instructor. And that's just for starts.
Forget USNWR - get some classrooms!
