Punt Returner & Kick off Returners

Who will be the Punt Returners and Kick Off Returners on Special Teams? The other question is will Kramer allow these players to take off without fair catching? Remember, what Kramer said to the media last season. He said we like to fair catch the ball so we do not turn the ball over with a fumble so our offense can start at that point and move the ball down the field. I remember the Bengals got booed last season by their own fans in one game for not returning punts and kick offs and Kramer was not happy with the fans after the game. He is the coach so it is his decision.

I think returning kicks can be one of the funnest part of the game and sometimes the most exciting. Why would a coach not want to include this in his game plans? I hope Kramer changes his philosophy and begins to instill confidence into his players who return kicks, and who cover kicks. From what I read on this forum the other day he is trying to do that this year. This is good news for us. Let's see what happens today.

Kramer has never put an emphasis on the kicking game; receiving or kicking. In the game where the classless people booed, the punts were coming down with 15 to 20 yards open for the receiver, the people who don't understand this is a coaches choice booed the returner. These decisions were made when field position really impacted the team and depth was a big issue. The last two recruiting classes have added more talented depth, prior to that we were dealing with the APR issue. Combined with the loss of scholarships and the method used to bring our APR up quickly (giving high GPA walk-on's scholarships) it impacted the previous recruiting classes. Additionally, Kramer made the decision to repair the offense first using the available scholarships mainly for this purpose. This does not mean we did not recruit some good defensive players it just means offense took the priority. Now we are recruiting both sides of the ball and team depth is improving.

Nice explanation. Thanks.

I agree with you and that is why our field position during games is not good. We our below average in punt and kickoff return yardage. Maybe, Kramer will give the punt returner and the kick off returner the Green Light this season. We will see during the games.
