Purple and White: What are you looking for?

Ditto on Joel. Right off the bat he had a quick spin move around Hajek. And his 12-15 foot jumper looked good. For the first ten minute session he dominated.
While Golden didn't score much at all in either session, he had some nice assists and I was impressed by his shooting during warm-ups.
It was nice to see Hill at the 3 spot for a bit during the first session.
I think we saw the starting five out there for the second ten minute session:
Bolomboy, Hill, Gittens, Golden, and Senglin.
Question is, who are the main reserves. Hajek or Braxton? Colston-Johnson and Hunter?
I am looking forward to this season and next.

Didn't get to the game last night due to family obligations, but in looking at the stat sheet was a little concerned about the offense. Looks like scoring was a struggle outside of Joel and our shooting percentage was abysmal. I know.... Comes across negative, but the JC transfers combined were 1-10!. I also expected more from Gittens and Hill. I know they're tremendous athletes, but got to focus on getting the ball through the hoop.

The Freshman really have a ways to go.......Richardson and Jefferson had tough shooting nights, looks like Hunter did well at the point. Great to see a freshman PG without a lot of turnovers. Braxton had 9 points but it sounds like the board is split on red shirting him. Leaves us thin if Hajek or Bolomboy have an injury.

Going to have to wait until the exhibition games to get a better read, but Bolomboy and Senglin look to be as advertised.

Great to start another season!

Can't explain why we can't get students to support our team. I'm not sure why our students can't seem to connect with the program. I know we're a commuter school, but seems like our students don't have pride in our sports programs. I wonder if we'd have a better showing if we had more on campus housing?

BYU, Utah and Utah State have crazy support. Weber State students just want to go to class and go home!

One of the best moments i witnessed from last night was when James talked to Braxton after he committed a moving screen. At this moment, they were on different teams but James knew how important to use this mistake as a learning curve. If James doesn't get playing time, you know he will be helping coach them from the sidelines.

I noticed Randy was riding Johnson-Coston pretty hard. I think Randy has high hopes for him, as he is obviously a freak athlete with loads of potential. He seemed pretty raw, but so was Mook when he first arrived at WSU. I'm excited to see what we get out of him.

He put his arm around Zach a few times and coached him up. I keep waffling back and forth on the Braxton redshirt issue. If he does play this year, you know that he will have James as a mentor in his corner. That is a sign of a true leader; coaching up a young kid that is fighting to take your minutes away.

The freshmen guards all had their moments, but hunter is the best passer we have had in the program for a long time. He is a pure point guard.

...

Van Pelt didn't play enough to get a good read on where he is at. He is a lot stronger than he was prior to his mission.

...

I was impressed with Hunter, he looks like Senglin in a lot of ways. I really liked his defensive intensity and think he frustrated Senglin a few times.

I was not impressed with Van Pelt whatsoever.

Well...we are far more talented than what I expected. This is going to be a fun team. Granted, there isn't much you can take from a inter-squad scrimmage but the team looked athletic and tough. We have some really good players. The Braxton controversy continues though. I feel he would really develop with a red shirt, but also, I feel he could definitely participate and contribute quite a bit this season. He is developing quickly and could overtake Hajek by the conference season. Loved how Hajek probably sensed that and was coaching Zach along. That to me is the biggest thing Hajek brings to this squad. I really thought Hajek played well too. He had really worked hard. He was moving better than ever. Senglin is the man! He has really taken that next step and is going to be an amazing player for the Cats.

Van Pelt reminds me of Mahoney. He is just getting back from a mission and it will take him virtually the entire season to get his legs totally back. I hope he gives himself the time to adjust and redevelop. He will be fine.

I think that we can all agree that we took very positive things from this purple & white game. I remember last year we came in with very high hopes coming off the CIT and watch the purple & white left me very frustrated and wondering what happened as our team had not gelled yet. This year many positive were seen,, especially the D.
We have so many guys that can contribute. Watching them play before the scrimmage, dunking and shooting, we are very athletic. I remember when Dame was here and he was just about the only athletic dunker. Now I think I only saw one person who was not consistently throwing down. Having too many guys who can ball is a good problem to have.

Good thing the first game is only a week away!

Good observations, Wildcat_fan. :+1:

As sacstatesman has said, Its hard to look good in an intrasquad game. The players are too familiar with one another and the sets. However, I feel that you can take some generalities away from the endeavor. The defensive intensity and athleticism were the best I have seen in quite some time. The organization was advanced for this time of year. The inexperience of the new players showed through, but the leadership of the returning players seemed to pull them along nicely. The overall talent level was the best I have seen since the Willy Sojourner era.

This team has the potential to be something really special.
