Purple Pussycats 10/12 from 3...Your Thoughts

So Weber hit their first 4 from beyond the arc, and went on to shoot 10/12 for the game -- that's 30 points off 12 shots. Was that luck, our defense at the arc, a combination, or other? Is absurdly high shooting % from the arc an important variable when evaluating a home team's win? If Weber had hit 10/12 in Greeley, would they have won that game? If UNC had gone 10/12 last night, would that have mattered?

I don't understand the lack of three defense... I tell my kid all the time, defend the three, I don't care if they slowly walk by you and lay it up, defend the three... If they would have given up 10 layups rather than threes, they would have had 10 less points. It seems to be just that simple. If they stop the three ball in the last four games, they win three out of the four of them. I do not understand how the game plan has remained the same for the duration of the last four games... Here's a hint coach: What your doing is not working, try something else... I believe they had a great game plan in the beginning of the year, play to your strengths and just do what you do, Wilson, create shots for others and be elusive, Bardon, do you and punish anyone who doubts you, Connor, be a presence, make people regret wanting to bang with you, but, be all about defense, leave the offense to the more athletic guys, Tim, Fly man fly, drive, be athletic and out jump, out run, and out hustle your opponent, and finally Tate, be the all around guy, drop bombs from deep and if they take that away from you, drive, mid range jumpers, and just confuse everyone on what you might do next.
I think we did that well in the beginning and then got afraid that the opponent might be on to us, so we switched everything up and started to play organized ball with planned outcomes. Three of the 5 guys I mention can't play like that, they play by instinct, feeling, and touch. When you over organize their game, it's not good and you get what we have had in the last four games. An over organized game that the players are not sure where their game fits in...

In response to my own post, I am just a spectator, I don't know what these guys do in practice or how they are in the lockeroom with each other. I can only go off of what I see on the tv and make my assessments from there. I am not a coach or a professional in an sort of basketball anything. I am just a frustrated fan that knows this team is far better than they show on the screen...

Wilson as a freshman has to earn BJ's trust. He's starting. But how much freedom you get is how much you earn. Thinking one or two steps ahead is key for a PG, but can't be expected consistently from inexperiece. When I was majoring in music at UNC, the professors engrained in me that I needed to be at least 4 measures ahead when sight-reading -- if you're reading a book, imagine being a sentence or two ahead of what you're actually reading off at all times -- so that you're ready ahead of time for surprises. Does Godeev have a great observation regarding the 3 pt defense?

Here comes more statistics from Bearuncle:

Bigsky Conference statistics and how the Bears rank:
The Good
1. Scorring Offense: UNC #2
2. Scorring Defense UNC #2
3. Field goal % UNC#1
4.Field goal % Defense UNC #3
5.3pt Field % UNC #2

The Bad
1. Assits/game UNC #6
2. Assist/turnover UNC #7
3. 3pt FG %/Defense UNC #7 ( we have taken 327 3 pts compared to 361 by our oppenents. They have made 134 to 126)

The Ugly
1. Free throw % UNC #10 out of 11 teams

So what does it all mean? IMO good teams 1) share the ball 2) make freethrows 3) defend the 3 pt line when you don't do these thing you will loose close games or get blown out of some games as the Bears have this year.

Lastly winning is fun!! loosing stinks. Lets hope they can figure it out both the kids and coaching staff.
