Quick math here...

There's 200,000 Sac State Alumni and if we can get some form of donation from each towards atheltic facilities (to build up a lump sum of money), that would make investment by a private company much more appealing.

We'll call it Operation "Nest Fund" and market it as such. Use local TV ads, the BEE, mailings, WHATEVER.

Assume the bottom 10% (20,000) donate nothing - $0

Hope that the next 25% (50,000) donate $20 each - $1,000,000

Coax the next 15% (75,000) to donate $50 each - $3,750,000

Wrangle (via event, special priviledges, whatever...) 25% (50,000) into donating $150 each - $7,500,000

Pray that the top 2.5% (5,000) are willing to part with $1,000 each - $5,000,0000

I know this is VERY optomistic, but I don't think it's too out of touch with reality to think that after a successful season and fundraising campaign that we could "nest" - $15M to $20M...

That's too easy. You are talking about the poster child for Government administration.
Remember, we are Sac State.

I would and could definitely donate a $150 for the Nest Fund. Unfortunately, a grand is a stretch, especially with the current economic situation.

I disagree the current administration are "the poster child for Government administration." Hornet Football’s coaches, Sac State's President, and the Athletic Director are taking the Sac State Football program in a positive direction. I appreciate their effort and leadership. Furthermore, I especially take expectation to Sac State trains its students to become mediocre government employees.

In one year (last year) the president of Montana StateUniversity, asked donors to donate $9 million dollars for their football stadium upgrade and it was done!!! Just one year from concept to completion.

We could build a more permanent football stadium for 15-20 M. I believe Davis' facility was around $30M.

Follow the Mackay Stadium (UNR) style (not the ridiculous UCD 10K concrete bowl) and get this thing done! Sure it's not the top of the line, but I think it looks great and presents well to recruits and on TV. Materials and labor can come dirt cheap now and I know if the school just dedicated a couple staff to a donation project, we could get the ball rolling...

Maybe even do something similar to that one website (the name escapes me) where you use your credit card to make a contingent donation to a particular cause or project. The contingency being, if the group does not reach their goal in a certain time period (1 year), you don't get charged. If I knew that I could donate $250 and only give up that money if we actually DO start building, I'd do it in a second. Until then, I guess my $20 here and there will have to do :-/

I think people are willing to donate money when they know exactly what it is their money is going towards. I've been contacted by sac state a few times over the past year seeking donations. But I was always hesitant because I wasn't sure exactly what the money would be spent on. Sometimes all you have to do is ask.

Put a counter on our huge electronic billboard or on hornetsports.com showing how much money has been raised towards a new stadium and what the goal is and I think it could gather some support......either that or embarrass us. I know that way is risky on a number of fronts, but there is also a high reward if done right. The point of the matter is, Sac State needs to put there hand out for donations in a big way.

I agree. Both Hornet and McKay Stadiums were built as twin 6,000 capacity stadiums when the two schools were in the old Far Western Conference. McKay has served the Wolfpack well and similar upgrades could be done at Hornet for a responsible amount of money.

Hope the MLS wants to expand to Sacramento and then work with that team to co-fund a new stadium? What would naming rights be worth? That's the Portland state model. I'm not sure our current stadium can hold soccer because of it's track though. Wanless sounded as though he really would prefer just a brand new stadium all together.

If MLS ever does expand to Sacramento they probable would prefer Hughes Stadium. Hughes is currently being remodeled to accommodate Soccer. They are leaving the track but relocating the jump runways so the field can be wider, they are also putting a artificial playing surface.

What about parking? It was always horrendous trying to park there for Causeway.

Parking at Hughes is not bad since they built the new parking structure north of the Stadium a few years back. There is still a traffic bottleneck in and out for big events, that that also happens at Hornet for big crowds,

GL is correct. I experienced the parking garage for the first time at the Sac-Joaquin Section track meet this past spring. While I still don't like the area very much, the garage GREATLY mitigates that for me. I'd still prefer to host Causeway at Hornet Stadium to maximize student turnout (freshperson types in the dorms might not have cars). Regardless, SID MUST do a better job of on-campus advertising.

Marketing, not Media Relations on campus. And they have with The Green Army, haven't you seen them?

If they have any relation to Green Thunder, I rarely saw them when I lived in the dorms. And I DEFINITELY saw no pub in the dorms or the chow hall. I hope to heck Green Army does a better job.

(If I had MY way, the name Green Army would go away and be replaced by Green Navy. Armies suck. ;) )

You obviously haven't been to an event in the past year to see the Green Army :ohno:

I don't think he has been to a Hornet event in the past 5 years. I'm 500 miles away and have attended more Hornet events than he has and he is only 40 miles away. :ohno:
