QB Competition

Is Orms going into spring drills as the #1 QB? I would assume so, but I think he will get pushed from Baca and Cameron Dean. Dean is probably Downing's best recruit since he's been here. Had a grayshirt offer from Fresno State and preferred walk-on at USC under Pete Carroll.

As I said in another thread, I think the QB position is wide open, Orms and Baca will be the front runners because they've been in the system the longest. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out next fall.

Deen is one of downing best recruits for sure....He'll also help to get other quality kids here. I believe that D Orhms will get every chance to be the starting qb in spring, and probally summer/fall too. This is the first time in along time we will have a wide open competition. Deen has alot to offer, he's smart, tall, can roll out, drop back and from film, is very accurate. Can he make the weather/leadership adjustment?? lets hope so! Baca is big and strong. will find out his mental tuffness in the spring. Orhms is a good leader on the field, has experiance, and can run like a back. his passing skills will need to improve, alot. Can Darnell coach this out of him intime for fall? Hopefully we are rucruiting o-linemen too!

That's why I like Orms. He's got a great first step. He's a dual threat to run or pass. Baca and Dean just haven't been on the field but they might all three get playing time this year.
