The continuity is probably good, I'm looking forward to the competition Gage Gubrud will provide.talon38 said:I've heard from some of the PLAYERS that West is the clear front runner thus far through Spring Ball. This is from reliable sources. However, come Fall training practices, who knows, but it's West for now from what I hear.

I would think that "game experience" from last year would really have to factor in to West being the front runner (as it should be). He did some nice things last year and I really love his arm....however, accuracy (especially downfield accuracy/touch) is a concern for me. These are things that can be improved. If he shows growth in those areas I think he's our guy. There's no reason why he couldn't take the job and run with it because the tools are there. All that being said, I love the mobility and accuracy of Gubrud and Hennessey. I wouldn't call either one a "running quarterback" but both showed escapeability and the ability to "run" if needed. Mobility is key for me because the pocket doesn't always hold up. If West doesn't get the ball out on time he's a sitting target. That's part of why VA was so successful. VA's ability to buy time with his legs so he could pass took him from good to great (much like Russell Wilson). Both our freshman were impressive. Both seemed to be mature beyond there years. In three spring scrimmages, Hennessey completed 77% of his passes for 135 yards, 2 TD's and a passing efficiency rating of 124.7. He completed all seven of his passes in the Red-White Spring Game for 71 yards. Gubrud completed 80% of his passes (24-of-30) for 308 yards, 2 TD's, an interception and a passing efficiency rating of 181.6. He also rushed 9 times for 61 yards and scored two times. He was 10-of-11 for 149 yards and a touchdown in the Red-White Spring Game, and the scrimmage before that he was 10-of-13 for 117 yards with 51 yards on the ground. It will be interesting to see how this thing shakes out over the course of the season.eaglesfootball said:talon38 said:I've heard from some of the PLAYERS that West is the clear front runner thus far through Spring Ball. I wonder if that is based purely on the fact that he has game experience from last year. I don't remember his performance during spring ball to be head and shoulders above everyone else.

With this early schedule, more than one QB is likely. Like West's big arm, value accuracy more. Regardless, the WR's will make plays and the line play should be solid.

I've seen all three QBs and they all look great. Gage Gurub 3rd string can fill in for any of the Quarter Backs, he was very impressive in the last Scrimmage. We are going to have another great team this year. Reilly Hennessey will push Jordan West. It is going to be great Competition. Saw some big trucks today in the vicinity of the new parking lot. Maybe putting in some more parking. I knew they were talking about 100 more parking spots. Last few days have been quite a number of trucks in the area. Next to Dressler Hall on Washington Street side, new Basketball Court is going in. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace
It is still an option, as was the case last year. Eags need to run the ball and run it well for our team to be successful. I'm not sure that people are aware of how much we actually ran the ball last year because our QB's/WR's/Passing game get so much hype. Eags ran it 552 times for 2,593 rushing yards and 32 rushing TD's. That's 185.2 yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry when you do the math which is really impressive. Our running game gets overlooked by many because we also threw for 4,600 yards and 45 TD's which is just ridiculous. Eags will run the ball again and run it well this year!!93bird said:Has the Big Sky conference outlawed running the football? This is still an option, right?
