Question for Vik fans:

Should we use former linebackers as backups for the fullback position, or should we use true freshman Grant Schuman? I watched Grant play in one of his high school games and was impressed.

I would think that given the new offense, fullbacks will be highly recruited by Mouse and Jerry. Coupled with the fact that Bobby should be granted an extra year I would go ahead and activate Grant. However many linebackers have plenty of experience playing fullback in highschool and we are fairly deep at linebacker so maybe the coaches know something we don't.

Agree. I know Coach Davis doesn't need my help in making personnel decisions, but in watching Grant play, again it was only one game, he looked physically ready to play college ball. Just brainstorming and seeing what you all thought.

The freshman's name is Grant Schuberg, not Schuman. It sucks not having the real goviks.com site. Sorry for that, just double checked because it didn't sound quite right.

Ha! Forestgreen I know you are a big fan just like me so yes the coaches do need our help making decisions! JJ

We're not a second or third year team in the Big Sky, so we need to do whatever it takes to win. If that means burning a year for Grant, then we burn a year for Grant. He's athletic & talented and we have two of our three fullbacks gone for the season.

PA System: "Grant Schuberg on the carry for the Viking first down!"

If he picks up the position in practice, get him some reps to take the load off of others. I'd hate to see missed blocks because our fullbacks are gassed due to the lack of depth...

Well said my friend.

You have to have faith that Glanville can recruit and play the kid.

If you think you have a better option, USE IT.

Talent trumps convention.

I think its a tough balance, I don't necisarily like to burn a kids redshirt year unless he is good enough to make an impact. Just throwing him out their to fill a spot when the starters are tired means he uses the same amount of elligibility for way less plays. In contrast if you redshirt him and play him when he is good enough to start he uses the one year of eligibility for twice the plays and twice the quality.

But Don't get me wrong I do agree with those of you that say if he is talented enough to play now and make a REAL impact I say go for it but once you play him you can't go back.

A very tough call. At this point in a season when you still have a chance at the playoffs, I think you play the best players, even if it costs a redshirt year. If the same issue arises later and we're already out of the playoff mix, then I would say save the redshirt and risk losing.

Far cry from most of you discussing DJ Robinson and Brennan Carvalho, but I have to agree. If he's the best, play him now.

The future is bright for the Viks and I wouldn't sell out tomorrow for the chance that the kid will contribute this year. The linebackers are backups and Nee will be carrying the load. Now, if Nee gets injured, God forbid, maybe you strip the red shirt.
