Yall trippin.

Sac and sac alone at the top.

This is sac state!!!!

If sac doesn't have 25 losses the award should go to sac.

Katz is a lock, a guarantee for 2015.

Uh sac has like 0 winning seasons in d1 and on thurs should have 20th win. He should win district award too.

The question shouldn't be will Katz win COTY but how did he pull it off? How did he recruit to the nest? Sign him to a 10 yr deal, Sac. Jerome never did near this well.

Sorry man, it's not a lifetime achievement award. We all know Sac St's basketball history, but this was Sac St's championship or bust year. They had their best talent ever and only needed one win in the final week to accomplish their goal, and they still couldn't do it. There is no way Katz deserves the award over Decuire when looking at this season only.

dont forget the general was the 2007 mvp over an nba 1st rounder though...

Good point.

Good point.

i looked up all the COTY award winners. Goes back to 1964, 3 times we had 2 coaches share an award. And 1987? :ohno:

1977-78 Neil McCarthy, Weber State (3rd) & Jim Brandenburg, UM (1st)
1986-87 Bobby Dye, BSU (2nd) & Jim Boutin, ISU (7th)
1993-94 Ron Abegglen, Weber State (1st) & Herb Williams, ISU (1st) - co-champs

1987 ISU team finished 7th of 8. All 8 teams were in the BSCT. ISU won the BSCT and went to the big dance with a 5-9/15-16 record. LOL

Alright, lets rank the Big Sky based on this seasons performance. I have to dock Hayford a little bit for his conduct on Saturday. I thought he spent far more time coaching the officials than his team in the 1st half.

1. Travis Decuire Montana - Over-achieved with a "young and inexperienced" team.
2. Brian Katz Sac State - Level headed approach holds players accountable.
3. Nick Robinson SUU - He has been getting the most out of team not deep in talent.
4. Jim Hayford - He is a baby, but his team pulled off some good wins this year.
5. Murphy NAU - Solid coach of a good team.
6. BJ Hill Northern Colorado - Another "young and inexperienced" team that finished with a winning record.
7. Randy Rahe Weber State - As the losses started mounting so did the excuses. Still a good coach the team had a major disconnect this season.
8. Tyler Geving Portland State - Coach, team and program appear to stuck in mediocrity.
9. Don Verlin Idaho - Could he be fired this week?
10. Bill Evans Idaho State - Good coach of a bad team. Next year doesn't appear to be better.
11. Brian Fish Montana State - I wasn't too impressed with him seems to be a whiner.
12. Brian Jones - He is out of his league in the Big Sky.

I think you are giving Jones too much credit. No way he should be rated that high.

Agreed - He shouldn't be coaching...

You guys are fairly rough on Jones. Before you go throwing him under the bus, keep in mind that you could wind up with a lot worse. You could go through several misses before you finally find the right fit. Then chances are high that you would lose any successful coach to a bigger program.

This is not an easy thing to deal with. :yikes:

Travis has shown that he is a good coach, but we will know more about him in the next two to three seasons. The guys he signed, neither are playing now. He won a championship with Tinkles kids. Who were a center away from being a top team last season. Tinkle got Breunig and signed Fabian in the early signing period. As long as Breunig stayed healthy Montana was going to be good. Last year they were in a situation that our Weber State Wildcats are in now. We are a center away from being really good. Since Hajek has started the Wildcats have only gotten better and better. Wish Rahe would have continued that strategy into the conference season. Damn that Oklahoma game!

So...I've been watching bits and pieces of the first game between Idaho and Eastern and it has been hilarious to watch Hayford. All he does is ride the refs. He doesn't really coach. He just rides the refs. Thankfully, one of the refs from Saturday nights game is currently on the floor and he, like on Saturday, spends most of the game talking with Hayford. What a joke of a coach! I lose more and more respect everytime I watch him coach.

I was going to come on and post the same thing. Verlin should throw the play cards at Hayford. Conner Hill is hot from the 3. Lets hope it continues and Baby Hayford is sent home packing. The refs didn't even see that elbow to Harvey until Hayford pointed it out and then they went to the replay and called the flagrant 1.

funny..... I thought that was the right thing to do by Hayford!!! Defended his best player and set a tone. How can you be upset with a Coach for making sure his team isn't getting screwed by the officials?

I think the job he's done at EWU is a major turnaround! He's done a great job and I hate EWU!

And maybe some of Hayford's talk with the officials is about where do they want to meet for dinner?
Glad both EWU & Sac St won today, they deserve to go on...I surely didn't want to see Idaho win & still think they are somehow bigger & better than the Big Sky. :ohno:

Katz has won the National Mid-Major coach of the year award.......we are really proud of his achievement with the facilities he has to work with......

it is truly unbelieveable what katz did this year. its even more impressive having been to the nest in person. i can't even imagine how recruiting happens.

You tell the recruit to remember what it felt like in Jr High to play in a really small gym. With your friends and family really close to the action.
