Hennessy does seem to have a certain je ne sais quoi and if I were a betting man I'd say we will see him in Missoula. Either way it won't make much of a difference unless we start running the ball better.

1000 x's this!

I'm glad someone pointed our our lack of productivity in the rushing game. There is plenty of blame to go around even though many want to point the finger at our qb. Regardless of who starts at QB in Missoula the line needs to make more holes. I am puzzled on why we haven't been running the ball better.

Baldwin is in a tough spot for sure. Do you go with the upperclassman who has been struggling as of late, or roll the dice with an unproven freshman?

Tough not to think about what might have been watching VA doing a superman into the end zone for Oregon in the Cal game.

Don't know who should start next week, but it might be time to give Hennessey a shot running the offense and just seeing what he can do.

I hope to see in person 3 Hennessy to Kupp TD passes to tie the FCS record (career TD receptions )in Missoula... and then Kupp can make the record his own in the Damn Cup game.

Our offense felt limited to short hitches and cross routes with West. Obviously, this issue was compounded by our inability to run the ball. I would've liked to see us commit to more running- at least early on- whether it's working or not. We make our already struggling defense that much worse when we have 90 second drives.

The playbook seemed far more open with Hennessy. This was a game that really called out for a mobile QB, as West found himself in front of a missed pass rush more than once and didn't turn upfield when yards presented themself.

I'm not closing the book on West... he's still a talented QB. But it's been two rough outings in a row, and I think we throw the change-up.

It's simple: you start Riley. West has been trending downward for the majority of the season. If you're not getting better, you put the headset on and let someone else gun sling. No knock on West, but you got to put your best players out there and from the limited action we've seen. Riley is the better option.

Whatever they decide to do I hope they do it early in the week so there is not a distraction all week. The team needs to focus of the Grizzlies, not who the QB might be.

I agree, and I am actually fine with whoever it is. One thing I have noticed is that RH does have the ability to get outside the pocket whereas JW is more of a pure pocket passer. RH does seem to be able to throw on the run, too. That could help some since our running game isn't there.

JW seems locked into option 1 or 2. I saw twice where Kupp was lined up in the inside slot, basically ran right by the safety to the post, and West was intent on throwing outside to a well covered Bourne.

It's interesting to me that so many people question the coaches. I am not saying Hennessey isn't the guy, but he has only gotten sporadic playing time in three games so far.

And it has mostly been in situations where the game was already decided. I am interested in seeing who comes out on the first series Saturday. My gut tells me it will be West.

True, but Hennessy has played extremely well in his appearances. I don't think folks thinking he is the guy means "questioning" the coaches. I think the majority of people that think Hennessy would be a better option wouldn't have a problem if West stays as the #1. I know that's how I feel. I have no doubt the best player will play at EWU. I just happen to think we have 2 very good QB's, and prefer Hennessy's style to West's. I will add too that when Hennessy was injured he was clearly pushing West and may have won that QB competition. He was making ELITE plays.

From most of what I've observed in games and practice, and read is that they both are throwing the ball well, but Hennessy's mobility could help us move the chains and may create more of what we are used to seeing in terms of our Offensive scheme (mobility at QB). That mobility has created lots of extened plays in the past for the EAGS.

This. I'd love to see him get the start and see how he does in a big game. I suspect he will do great. :notworthy:

If our QB can scramble enough to keep a play alive our 4 outstanding WR's to get open it leads to big plays. All 4 guys can really roll up some yards in space. That rollout gets tight ends in the play more than just blocking.
It isn't about the yards a QB gains but keeping a play alive for a couple more seconds.

To me the fact that Hennessy could be our starter for the next 3 years only makes starting him all that more attractive. I think he was on the verge of winning the starting spot when he was injured early in the season. I's love to see him get the start in a big game and see what he can do.

That's a huge part of what Vernon did for us during his time here. That style really fits our scheme in terms of maximizing our performance. Hennessy is that type of QB. GG may also be in that mold to some degree. We also recruited (unsuccessfully unfortunately) a QB from New Mexico that also fit that mold to a tee.

I am very intrigued by how well Hennessy plays and how young Hennessy is. Coach Hill and Coach Baldwin have done great work with him. It could be a great 3 years in the system AFTER this year! :thumb:
