Hey All:

Wanted to start a quick thread to let you know that former Portland State player and current Colorado Crush DB Rashad Floyd will play on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday on ESPN2, 10:00 p.m. ET, when the Crush host the Dallas Desperados. This will be the last regular-season game this year. The playoffs will begin on Friday, June 29 and will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN on ABC.

Floyd, in his 6th AFL season, has 149.0 tackles and 9 interceptions for 111 yards. He really has been tremendous on the field.

Anyone out there caught the 5:00 pm KGW news tonight? They had a segment in sports about how Rashad Floyd is helping PSU football players work out this summer. The players were working out at Lincoln high school, saw players like McClintock and Kavanaugh in the background. Floyd seems to be a real class act and always wanting to help Portland State.

That would be sweet if he became part of the staff.

What's the consensus on us parting ways with Brice? The secondary was better this year, but still far from great.

Anyone been to Amalfi's? I had no idea that he and his wife operated it. Good looking happy hour menu. :-)

"The Vikings have let secondary coach Alundis Brice go, and Glanville says he “would love to” talk to Floyd about the open position."

I wonder what the story behind the story is on Brice. As for Floyd, I would love for him to be added to the football staff.
 
I think getting rid of Brice was a good call as long as they don't lose Shead. He has a lot of potential.

Is losing Shead with Brice leaving speculation or a real possibility?

He'll be starting corner coming into camp and it seemed to me that JG is pretty high on him. Not sure if he'd want to throw that away just because his position coach is leaving.

• Nobody regrets the demise of the Arena Football League more than Portland’s Rashad Floyd.

The former Portland State cornerback played seven years in the indoor league, led the league in tackles four times and was five times a first- or second-team all-Arena selection. He had signed a two-year, $300,000 contract with the Colorado Crush.

In December, the league canceled the 2009 season. Earlier this month, officials announced the league is going away – at least for now – after 22 years despite an average attendance of 12,957 its final season. Portland had a team, the Forest Dragons, for two seasons. There are 25 teams in a developmental league (af2) that will continue operations.

“It’s tragic,” Floyd says. “We had a ton of momentum and a contract with ESPN. From the outside looking in, the thing was thriving. The rug was swept from under our feet. There were a lot of egos involved in the decision (to disband). Most of the owners have franchises in other sports. It was easy for them to let it go.

“The sad part is, a lot of (people) employed by the league are stuck. About 80 percent of the players have nothing to show for their time in the league, and nowhere to go.”

Floyd, 30, has been offered a tryout with the San Francisco franchise in the new United Football League. He has other irons in the fire, including the family’s terrific Italian restaurant in Northeast Portland – Amalfi’s. Floyd has a Saturday radio talk show on The Game (95.5 FM) and a contract to serve as college football analyst for Fox Sports Northwest, beginning with the Sept. 5 Oregon State-Portland State game in Corvallis. He also has a wife, Kiauna, and a month-old daughter, Ava.

“I have a lot of football left in me I still need to get out on the field,” says Floyd, who is nevertheless uncertain whether he will give the UFL a try. “It’s not enough money to be a no-brainer. I have to do what’s best for our family.”
