Rebuilding year???

It is to bad that I am stuck here in Texas, so I can't see what is happening on a daily basis here in Portland, but I need to ask this question....

Is Mouse and Jerry being forced into an unplanned rebuilding year where they are forced into playing the season with players recruited under the Walsh philosophy?

Are they actively scouting for recruits that are a better fit into the 3-4 and the run & shoot offense?

If you guys say we are, I am willing to deal with a lean year, expecting a better result next year. However that being said I hope that the team will steadily improve and make a showing the rest of the season, especially on Oct 6th when I come up for NAU.

The whine and cheese crowd came out Saturday and they will be at home next weekend. Stay in Texas thats all I have to stay.

PSU had solid athletes on Off and Def...that's why they were picked 2nd. Jordan Senn, Michael Dorsey, Casey Tyler, Cole Smith, Brennan Carvalho, Tremaine Kirkland, Brian White, Darren Heerspink, Kenneth Mackins, Reggie Joseph, Bobby Mc. That is more talent other BSC schools except Montana. Other head coaches and media members, who's job it is to rank talent, felt PSU was talented. Why do we believe this BS. These coaches are blaming players for losing. Shouldn't they be taking the blame when things go wrong, and giving credit to the players when things go right?

Walsh had a legit argument for rebuilding when we transitioned to D-IAA because we were redshirting players, and starting frosh. We now have established D-I players, more resources, and lose to a team we should be 10 years ahead of. Where is the reality here. This is REALLY BAD!

Mouse and Jerry are showing their age right now. They WERE good, but the game has passed them by! Results speak louder than words. They are a joke. Lupfer would be 2-0 as head coach right now, and nothing Jerry does will bring fans back at this point. His act is transparent. He is all talk, no walk!

Tell me this, since I wasn't there, how was the "excitement" about Viking football after the game? That loud sucking noise is our program going down the toilet!

Listen to us!!!!! We sound worse that the Michigan alumni!

I have not given up on PSU and will not in the future. We have new coaches and new philosophies, so lets gives things a chance and see how the season ends up. If the season turns into a total loss we can revisit this subject then.

Till then, I will support my team come H*LL or HIGH WATER!

Spoken like a true fair weather fan that wasn't even at the game.

I don't know if I'd agree that Lupfer would be 2-0 as the head coach this year, as McNeese seems to be a pretty talented team. Next week should shed some light on how good they are.

I'd like to see the coaches address some of the 2nd half play calls like the decision to kick both a 51 and a 52 yard field goal in the third quarter, as well as the train wreck six play stand from the 1 yard line in the 4th quarter.

Certain issues like dropped passes and incorrect routes being ran by converted players can be attributed to the lack of depth (a result of the new offensive system being put in place), but some of the play calling in the 2nd half was a little suspect. That comes from the top, not the boys on the field.

Another bad decision, in my opinion, was running the ball with Dallas Smith for an attempted first down. I believe that was in the third quarter. The poor kid probably barely knows the plays, and needless to say, was caught behind the line of scrimmage and was tackled for a loss. Our offensive line was horrendous in the 2nd half.

The depth of the o-line was a glarring problem in the second half. We were able to win the first half, but unfortunately the team still does not know how to finish a game. As far as re-building goes I think the players are still trying to find their identity on offense. I don't think we would be 2 and 0 right now even if walsh was still here. I do think that they would have beaten UC Davis. The viks should be up for the game agianst Sac. The pride of the players is online and remember what happened to Oregon State last year when they went 0-2 to start the season everyone was counting them out. The Sac game is now a must win to gain some confidence back.

lWe are Struggling big time up front! To help those guys out though we need to make some adjustments in the play calling as well as having White not hold out so long for the big play and be willing to burn a ball out of bound once and a while. The O-line has a long way to go but I just think we could be doing more to help them while they learn to be better pass blockers.

I have reservations about the Run N Shoot at this point with a weak line. I think we need a tightend especially on that left side of the line. There is a reason that teams don't use the run n shoot and we are finding out exactly why that is.. 9 saks

I was hanging out with some players after the game and they mentioned that that PSU has not installed a goaline offense. That was apparent on that 5 plays from the one and they could not punch it in. Who are you foolin with 4 recievers in on goaline, and if you have them in, why run 5 times in a row. Not one play action rollout, not one quick slant, nadda.

I agree with Marty in that the play calling was suspect and kicking 50 plus yard field goals was stupid as well.

These were game management decisions that the Walsh staff would make as well that I expected to be corrected under the new staff.

Rebuilding perhaps, but if so they need to start right away and put in all the young guys. Otherwise, they might as well work hard and try to win the rest of the games. If they can cut the number of sacks in half and fix the timing on the passes, they could probably win the majority of the remainder. I think the MSU team that lost 45-0 to Davis shows an example of what PSU needs to strive for.

Though I don't like his word choice, I think 1985 is right about one thing: fair weather fans. In Portland this describes the vast majority. If they don't support the team, I don't care about them. Donate your money and skip the game.

we all knew that talent was not available for the new offense and defense.
talent is available for the walsh scheme. i think they would be 2-0 under lupfer.
jerry and davis did not recruit these folks, perhaps some JC transfers, but the vast majority came to play for walsh.
if davis sticks around for more than "a year or two" you'll see the run and shoot flow like the columbia.

If the line is as banged up as it appears to be, NO offense is safe. Of course, if Brian White wants to hold the ball for the bombs, it's only playing into that weakness.

Would you rather have two guys not tossed for grades and have the coach gain a Dennis Erickson rep? (Not to mention take the scholarship hit that comes with it... recall Montana State?)

9 sacks?! This team is in trouble. I totally agree with Marty. Why the 50+ yard field goal attempts? Also, what about the passing routes run by the receivers? Seemed like they're were very few underneath routes.

Basically the game is won and lost with the offensive line. Our line is having trouble and needs some help. C'mon Mouse!
