If I've got this correct...Holt Arena IS owned by the University, and is not an official "athletic department" facility. Athletics gets a high priority...but has to stand in line to use Holt just like it does for Reed Gym. The University books other events to help pay for upkeep and maintenance of Holt...and does not have the money to operate it without the money from additional events. In other words...athletics is a "tenant" of Holt...not the landlord, that's why the time it takes to take up and remove turf could be an issue. I think it's an issue that can be dealt with...but it would prohibit any other events going on inside once the turf went down...or it would take a lot of extra dollars for maintenance people to take it up and lay it down...back and forth. At least that's the way I understand the issue...
In the same program Jeff stated the current turf life is scheduled to be up in 2 years...but a new turf cost is significantly higher than was built into the replacement budget when the long-range plan was made years ago. Obviously a major donor will be needed to fund this project, too. If it matters...it sounds like things are likely going to be a go for upgrading the weight training facility and getting a new outdoor practice turf. We might hear more on that in the near future.
