Replacing Cameron Jones

Hey all,

I wrote an article on how I think NAU will replace Cameron Jones, but I would love to hear Lumberjacks' fans opinion. I've been hearing good things about Danny Cheek, what do you guys think of his potential and/or ability to play right away? Can Rogers step up and be a first team Big Sky guy?

Would love to hear your thoughts...

Welcome, Jon. Sadly, this place is dead but any contributions are appreciated.

There will be no replacing Cameron Jones. The mid-range jump shot is a lost art in college basketball....hell.... in any level of basketball anymore. The Pac-10 has egg on their face for not recruiting him and I, for one, am happy he was overlooked and played his career in Flagstaff. I hope he knows his efforts were appreciated by Lumberjacks fans. This is an understatement but he will be missed.

I have no doubts that Gabe Rogers will put up points next season. He has the ability to be the best pure shooter in the league. My concerns are a lack of size (rebounding was not a strength last season) and the sheer numbers of new faces/redshirts on the squad. 7 returnees and 8 new faces/guys who didn't see any court time last season. On court chemistry may take a while.

That being said - as usual I am stoked and can't wait for November. I've heard internet mumblings that NAU is playing ASU as well as UofA this year. Nice to see ASU decide that scheduling a local opponent makes more sense than scheduling Delaware State or North Carolina A&T. NAU beats the Sundevils again and Tempe won't schedule em for another 5 years or so again.

Go Jacks!

Thanks for the heads up. Looking forward to these games. May have to scrape to find UofA tickets but pretty sure I'll be able to get ASU tickets. Do you plan attending the game in Tempe?

I am planning on it at this time.

NAU also has a game against BYU in Prescott on Nov 30th.

Rest of Home schedule is bleh - AZ Christian, Northern NM, Pepperdine (good) and CS-Bakersfield.

NAU should host a bracketbusters game as well.

As far as your blog - very good article. I do hope Cheek turns out as expected

Thank you, much appreciated!

Very nice about ASU and Arizona games, NAU could definitely steal one of those games. And Pepperdine is a pretty solid home game... getting a WCC team at home is a lot better than some Big Sky teams are managing to get on their schedule.
